DRIVEN TO DISCOVER:
8TH GRADE SCIENTISTS RACE INTO PHYSICS!
Eighth grade science students completed their final project for the Physics Unit - a group project where students design a moving car with minimal materials: a small piece of cardboard, 1 rubber band, 4 CDs, 2 6 inch wooden dowels and a straw. Each group used all the materials, and nothing more, to design and create a car that generates its own force and must move at least 1 meter.
Last week students raced their cars in some very close and exciting races! Potential/kinetic energy, speed/velocity and all three of Newton's Laws of Motion were concepts involved in this engaging project.
Special thanks to Ms. AMY FERREIRA and Mr. ZACH BOYKIN for steering innovation and sparking curiosity with this high-speed, physics adventure!

SMHS ARTISTS OF THE MONTH
Congratulations to junior Annabelle Marchand for being named high school Artist of the Month by the Fine, Media and Performing Arts Department. Outstanding talent, Annabelle!
Congratulations to 7th grader Matthew Tokla for being named middle school Artist of the Month by the Fine, Media and Performing Arts Department. His art can also be found hanging on the wall in the principal's office and in the lobby showcase. Nice job, Matthew!
Matthew's inspiration, "I am motivated to finish a drawing because I like seeing the finished product. I also complete art by seeing other artists' artwork, taking little details from their drawings that I like, and incorporating them into my artwork to progress at a steady pace." Matthew Tokla
We're excited to see what Matthew creates in the future!
