AMS Weekly Update
Monday, October 21 - Friday, October 25
Dear Adams Middle School Families,
Exciting Updates: End of Quarter 1 and Boys Basketball Tryouts
It’s hard to believe we’ve already reached the end of the first quarter! The marking period officially ends on Friday, October 25th. We are so proud of all the hard work our students have put in over the last few months. Report cards will be available online soon after, providing an opportunity to celebrate their growth and address any areas for improvement as we move forward into the next quarter.
On another exciting note, boys basketball tryouts will begin on October 23rd! We know how much energy and enthusiasm our students bring to athletics, and we are excited to see them in action. To participate, students must be passing at least 4 out of their 6 classes. We emphasize that being a student comes first, and we hold our athletes to high academic standards. This balance of academics and athletics helps build discipline, time management, and resilience—skills that benefit them in all areas of life.
As the fall weather settles in, we’re experiencing colder days. Please remember that students are not able to wait inside the building for their rides after school. To ensure everyone's safety and smooth dismissal, kindly pick up your child no later than 3:00 PM. If your child is in need of a coat, gloves, or a hat, please reach out to us. Our Family Resource Center is available to offer support.
Thank you for your continued support in helping our students thrive both in the classroom and on their sports teams. Let’s finish the quarter strong and keep building on this momentum as we head into the next exciting phase of the school year!
Warm regards,
Mrs. Bukosky and Mrs. Abbott

NO SCHOOL: NOVEMBER 5, 2024
Dear Families and Staff,
The district and the teachers' union have been working together on contract negotiations over the past several months. While we have not yet finalized all calendar dates, we have agreed to hold a district-wide professional development day on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. As a result, there will be no school for students on that day.
Thank you for your patience, and we will continue to share updates as more information becomes available.
Sincerely,
Jen Curry
Acting Superintendent
Beaumont Clinic
Parents,
We need your assistance! Many students have requested to visit the Beaumont Clinic, conveniently located within our school. However, we are still waiting on signed consent forms. If your child brought a form home, we kindly ask that you complete and return it as soon as possible. Your cooperation will help ensure your child can access care when needed. Thank you!
LATE TO SCHOOL!
We understand that mornings can be challenging, and we appreciate all the efforts you make to get your child to school on time. However, we are noticing an increasing number of students arriving late each day, and we want to work together to ensure all students are set up for success.
School starts promptly at 7:50 a.m., and it’s important that students are in class, ready to learn, by then. When students arrive after 8:05 a.m., they are considered absent for the day, which affects both their learning and overall attendance record. We also know that chronic tardiness can cause students to fall behind in their assignments and miss key instructional time. This can lead to stress and frustration for both students and teachers.
We also want to take a moment to share the impact tardiness has on the classroom. When students arrive even just a few minutes late—3, 5, 8, 16, or even 25 minutes—it’s incredibly disruptive. It interrupts the flow of the lesson, makes it harder for teachers to maintain momentum, and affects the learning environment for everyone in the class. For the students who arrive late, it sets a negative tone for their day, which can affect how they engage for the entire hour and beyond. These are things we know many parents may not fully consider, but they are significant.
We understand that some families may be facing challenges that make it difficult to arrive on time. If this is the case for your family, we want to help. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you need support or resources that could assist you in getting your child to school on time. Whether it's transportation issues or scheduling conflicts, we are here to listen and offer solutions.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter. By working together, we can ensure that every student has the best opportunity to succeed.
Bus Cancellations
Important reminder: If your child’s bus is cancelled in the morning, please be aware that the bus will not be running in the afternoon either. This applies to both pick-up and drop-off services for that day. We understand that this may cause inconvenience, and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation in making alternate transportation arrangements for your child.

Social Studies
Social Studies Update!
October has been an exciting and busy month for our Social Studies classes.
7th Grade: Our 7th graders have been diving into the fascinating world of early humans and the Paleolithic era. They’ve been learning about how our ancestors adapted to their environment, the tools they used, and how early societies began to take shape. We’ve discussed key concepts like hunting and gathering, the development of tools, and the origins of art and culture.
8th Grade: Meanwhile, our 8th graders have been exploring pivotal moments in early American history. We started with the French and Indian War, studying its causes, major battles, and its impact on shaping the future of America. This naturally led us to the Declaration of Independence, where students analyzed its key principles and discussed its significance in the American Revolution. They’ve also reflected on the concept of independence and how it resonates in our lives today.
Currently: We’re now focused on studying the U.S. Constitution. Students are learning about its structure, the Bill of Rights, and how the Constitution has evolved over time. We’re encouraging critical thinking as students explore the rights and responsibilities that come with citizenship.
It has been an amazing journey of discovery, and the students have shown great enthusiasm for these important topics in our nation’s history.
We encourage you to engage your child in conversations about what they are learning. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher via email.
Thank you for your continued support
Special Education
The Fall weather is finally here! I hope everyone is able to get out and enjoy the fresh air and beautiful scenery.
This month we will continue to showcase more of our classrooms and wonderful staff. I would like to Introduce Mr. Harp, our CI long term substitute teacher, and his wonderful para-professionals, Theresa Funk and Al sarraji Rusul.
Hello, I am Mr. Harp aka Mr. Shoe guy. I am a former entertainer, a football coach and father of two. I am also a graduate of Wayne State University in Communication Arts with a Masters in Sports Administration and Physical Education. I am happy to be a part of the Adams family. I strive to be a positive influence on the lives of our youth. Thank you for your trust in me and the staff here at Adams Middle School.
I am Rusul Al sarraji . I would like to introduce myself, a paraprofessional working at Adams Middle School for students with special needs, I play a critical role in supporting both the students and the classroom environment. My primary responsibility is to assist students with varying disabilities, ensuring they have the tools and support they need to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. Each day, I collaborate closely with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students. This may involve one-on-one or small-group instruction, helping students stay on task, and adapting lessons or materials to meet their unique learning needs. Whether I’m providing academic support, guiding behavioral interventions, or facilitating communication, my goal is to create an inclusive and supportive learning atmosphere. In addition to classroom support, I also help students with life skills, such as communication, self-regulation, and social interaction, fostering their independence and confidence. My work requires patience, compassion, and a deep understanding of each student’s needs, and I take pride in celebrating their progress, no matter how small. Through my role, I find joy in making meaningful connections with students and contributing to their overall growth and well-being, helping them reach their full potential.
I chose to become a paraprofessional working with students with special needs because I have a strong passion for helping others, especially those who face unique challenges. The opportunity to make a direct, positive impact on students’ lives is deeply fulfilling to me. I’ve always been drawn to roles where I can offer support, guidance, and encouragement, and working in special education allows me to do that every day. Additionally, I believe in the importance of inclusive education and feel that all students, regardless of their abilities, deserve the opportunity to learn and thrive in a supportive environment. The chance to work closely with children, helping them develop not only academically but also socially and emotionally, is incredibly rewarding. I also value the opportunity to collaborate with teachers, specialists, and families to ensure that each student receives the individualized care and attention they need. This job allows me to continuously learn and grow, while also helping students develop essential skills that will benefit them throughout their lives. Ultimately, I chose this path because I wanted a career where I could make a difference, and being a paraprofessional allows me to do just that by empowering students with special needs to reach their full potential.
Hello, my name is Theresa Funk. I have been married for 42 years, I have one daughter and two amazing grandchildren. I have been a parapro in Wayne Westland for 20 years and I have worked at the high school, middle school and elementary. This is my third year as the classroom para in the CI classroom here at Adams. I enjoy coming to work and being there to assist the students with not just the academics and behaviors, but to be a support for them as they are developing the social and life skills that they will need to be successful.
