Veteran's Day
Our second grade students will be leading our school’s Veteran’s Day program on Monday, November 10th at 8:00 am in the BES Cafeteria. Our Texan Choir students will be singing The Star Spangled Banner. Parents are invited to attend! Our whole school will be attending the celebration.
If your family has a veteran that would be willing to come to our celebration, please sign them up HERE. We would love to be able to recognize them!
2nd Grade Families can see more information HERE.
Art with Ms. Maninger
The art program at BES is off to a fantastic start this year! Our students have been diligently working on their projects, and we are excited for you to see their creativity. If you haven’t already, please be sure to accept the invitation you received via email from Artsonia. We will be using this platform to upload and share the majority of our students' artwork throughout the year.
Here's a little glimpse of what we are currently working on:
Pre K - Mixing our primary colors to make other colors
Kindergarten - Shape Cats
1st - Optical illusions
2nd - Colored pencil shading and optical illusions
3rd - Street Art
4th - Lighthouse Paintings
5th - Street Art
Additionally, I wanted to remind you that Artsonia offers the option to purchase customized items featuring your child’s artwork. As a bonus, 20% of the proceeds from these purchases will be donated back to the BES art department to help fund new art supplies and classroom technology. This is a wonderful opportunity, especially with the holiday season approaching!
Music/Piano with Mrs. Benson
Piano
All of our 2-5 students have had a chance to have lessons in the piano lab! All their piano music is in their SeeSaw activities (2nd grade) or Canvas (3-5). They are welcome to practice at home on a real piano/keyboard.
Just a reminder that all 2nd-5th students need to bring headphones for use in the piano lab. Only wired headphones work with the pianos. Bluetooth headphones (unless they have a cord) and lightning port (Apple) headphones do not work. We only have a few pairs of extra headphones in the lab, so it’s important that all students bring their own.
Morning Melodies
If your child is interested in signing up for Morning Melodies, they can sign up HERE (Any 2nd-5th Grade student can sign up). For more information on Morning Melodies, click HERE.
General Music
In music class, we are working very hard on brushing up on our musical skills. We are working on singing, music literacy, instrument/drumming technique, barred instrument pieces, body percussion, singing games, speech pieces, canons, world music, and all kinds of things!
Texan Choir
Texan Choir is rocking and rolling! We currently have 50 singers in choir and rehearsals are going very well! We are preparing The Star Spangled Banner for Veteran’s Day, as well as several selections for the Colleyville Tree Lighting on Saturday, November 23.

PE with Coach Smith and Coach Pepe
We have had a GREAT 9 weeks in PE!
We have been focusing on cooperative, team-building games and building our volleyball skills.
Students have especially enjoyed playing games with the net! Ms. Gerdes, Mrs. Allen, and Mrs.
Gibson have all stopped by to join in on the fun!
Our 3 rd -5 th graders completed their Fall Fitnessgram Assessments and wrote SMART (Specific,
Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-Based) goals. I am so proud of the goals they set, and I
can’t wait to watch them achieve their goals this school year!
Please remember to have your child wear tennis shoes on PE days. It is a district safety requirement.
Your student will either have PE on Monday, Tues day and Thursday OR Monday, Wednesday, and
Friday.
If your student is involved in activities (sports, dance, etc.) outside of school, please feel free to send
me their schedule to bethany.smith@gcisd.net! While I cannot attend everything (I wish that I could!),
I would love to drop by and see our awesome BES kiddos when I can!
Theatre with Mrs. Culpepper
This nine weeks has been great! We have so much fun with pantomime and learning theatre games.
In our lower grades we have been working on Pantomime. I’m sure some of you have seen your students pulling a fake rope or trying to escape from a box. This 2nd 9 weeks we will start exploring our voices and how we can use our voice to create characters.
2nd grade has started working on their Veteran’s Day performance. More about that is to come.
In the older grades we also worked on tableau and pantomime and will start learning about plot and figuring out how a play works. We will also work on winter plays.
Seussical is well underway in 5th grade. Rehearsals are going fantastic!! We can’t wait for you to see it!
