Jackson Routines
- Breakfast starts at 8:15. Students can be dropped off on the playground.
- Students that are not eating breakfast can be on the playground at 8:25. There is not adult supervision before that time.
- Students can be dropped off on Menasha in the parking lot of the church. There is a crossing guard to safely cross students. Students should not be dropped off in the teacher's parking lot. Cars should not block the teacher parking lot.
- Another drop off is the end of 17th St. This is a dead end with a turn around. It is extremely important that parents take turns in the circle dropping their child off. Students should leave the car on the sidewalk side.
- Pick-up routines are the same as drop-off. Classroom teachers will bring students out to the playground when the bell rings.
- Birthday treats are a wonderful way to celebrate the special event. We ask that you only bring enough treats for the students and teacher.
September Safety Response Protocol
School safety is critical to high quality learning and the Manitowoc Public School District utilizes the K12 Standard Response Protocol (SRP/SRM) for all schools. The SRP provides five safety response protocols. Those five responses are SECURE - LOCKDOWN - EVACUATE - SHELTER - HOLD. The SRP provides for a standard response that is shared with students, staff, visitors and with our first responders from the Fire and Police Departments.
Each month throughout the school year, all schools will train on one of the five responses. The training is designed to create knowledge, answer questions, and build familiarity for all students, staff and visitors.
An EVACUATION is utilized to move students and staff from one location to another. During EVACUATION we will: leave personal belongings behind, form a single line, and move to our safe evacuation location outside or to the announced location. Once at a safe location, teachers will take attendance.
During any safety practice or live event, please pay close attention to your teachers instructions. At some point during this month we will talk through and walk through an EVACUATION as a result of the fire alarm sounding.
When we use an announcement for the EVACUATION it will sound like this:
EVACUATE! To (the announced location)!
EVACUATE! To (the announced location)!
SFA Chat with Mr. Sleger
Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year! It is such an exciting time of the year. I would like to introduce myself. My name is Mr. Dean Sleger. This marks my 24th year of teaching. Twenty-three of those years have been spent teaching here at Jackson. Throughout my career, I have taught first and second grade. I am Jackson's Success For All (SFA) Facilitator. I will have the privilege of working with your child throughout the year and monitor their literacy progress. My room is behind our library.
On September 18th, our students will begin traveling and working in their SFA literacy groups. That evening, your child will come home with a letter indicating who their SFA teacher is along with their reading level. Please be on the lookout for this note. Groups will be changing every 8 weeks. Therefore, I will always send home updated communication with your child's SFA teacher and their current reading level. Part of SFA, all students will have a 4-day homework expectation. More information regarding homework will be coming home soon…
If you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out. You can contact me at: 920.663.9434.
This is such an exciting journey for all of us!

School Based Mental Health at Jackson
If you feel that your child would benefit from seeing a licensed therapist at school, during the school day, please reach out to our school counselor, Amy Wiesner. We are extremely lucky to have Frank back at Jackson this year on Thursdays to meet with students. This is not a free service, but most insurances are accepted.
