Strike Update, Sunday, Nov. 5
Dear families and staff,
The Portland Public Schools bargaining team continued to work on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and remained in dialogue with the Portland Association of Teachers (PAT). School board members joined our bargaining team in caucus at various points throughout the weekend, and continue to provide direction as a whole board each day.
We are prepared to continue meeting again tomorrow, and are hoping that PAT will stay at the table with us. We remain committed to meeting continually and making compromises within our fixed resources until we arrive at a fair settlement. We have asked our mediator to continue bringing us together every day. This needs to be settled and we need to get our students back in school now.
We will continue to work late into this evening, but given where we are in the negotiations, and PAT’s confirmation that they intend to remain in a work stoppage, there will be no school tomorrow (Monday, Nov. 6). Given the nature of our late-evening negotiations, we will continue communicating with you the night before a school closure, but we will communicate two hours later – no later than 9:00 pm each night - about the next day’s plans.
Please continue to access our continuing resources and to pose any questions you have.
