Who said teachers aren't fun?!

At today's school assembly, students learned that the theme of November is "Safety & Self Control." Students absolutely loved getting to see their teachers learn some self control of their own by following along to the "Freeze Dance!"

Weekly Message

TIMELY ATTENDANCE: We need your help. School starts at 7:45 AM, and students are marked as tardy after 7:50 AM. This year, we are consistently having a concerningly large number of families drop off their children late every day of the week. With an average of 10 students late per day, and sometimes upward of 20 students late on a daily basis, we worry about the impact all around. When students are late to school, their day starts off on the wrong foot as they miss important community time with their classmates, and their peers learning is disrupted as the teacher needs to orient them to the day in the middle of teaching as they arrive. Even 5 minutes late several times per week can accumulate into 6+ hours of lost learning time in only one school year (picture that over the course of an entire 4K-12 educational career!). Families, please hear us emphasize the importance of getting your child to school every day, on time. We understand there are days where your child is sick, or there is a one-off bump in some mornings that causes a delay, but other than that, we need each of your help to either get them on the bus, or if you drive them here to please arrive before 7:45 AM. As a public school, we are accountable for requiring student attendance, which includes students arriving on time. We will begin following up with those families that we have a concern around tardiness (or excessive absences in general) becoming a pattern. If you have questions, or need support, please reach out to Associate Principal Brooke Hauser and School Social Worker Lily Hlavacek, who are both happy to work with our families around this issue.

KF & 2nd Grade Vision Screening

On November 7th and 14th, the Lions Club trained vision screeners will be screening all Kindergarten and 2nd grade students for vision difficulties. This is a simple, non-invasive test using a tool supplied by the screeners. Families will be notified if the results show any variance from normal range.

If for some reason (i.e your student is already screened by an ophthalmologist regularly), you wish your child not to be screened or if you have any further questions, please email School Nurse, Lauren Neesam at neesaml@mcfsd.org. Please also remind your student to bring their glasses to school that day, if they wear them!
