Colts Connection-Know Before You Go
For Parents!
Have a great Summer!
It is wild that we are here already! Another fantastic year at Ponoka Elementary School! From Get the Scoop to our year end assembly, the year seemingly flew by. As we head into the Summer break I want to thank all of our parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, and the list goes on, for all the amazing support throughout the year. Our families are who make our school a community and not just any community, but a vibrant, caring, and supportive community. It takes a village to raise a child and it takes a community to educate 625 students. We wish everyone a restful and well-deserved summer break and we can't wait to get started back up in the Fall!

An email was sent to all parents and it is on our website as well. Report Cards are being posted digitally to Parent Portal. Instructions on how to access your Parent Portal have also been sent out. If there are issues in accessing your child's report card please contact the office before the end of the day on June 28th.
Along with Report Card information, the email and website contain links to next year's calendar, bell schedule, and supply lists for next year.
Demographic Forms (Registration Confirmation)
On August 22nd, Demographic Forms will be available online to be completed and updated. These demographic forms confirm your child's enrollment at PES and contain a variety of different consent forms. These forms MUST be completed by September 15th at the latest. Incomplete demographic forms after September 15th will limit your child's ability to access technology and participate in Physical Education. If you have any questions please contact the office.
Finding out Your Child's Teacher for Next School Year
On August 28th, you will be able to see who your child's classroom teacher will be by logging into your Parent Portal.
Supporting Your Child Over the Summer
As we approach the summer break, it's essential to consider how we can prevent the dreaded "summer slide" and keep our children engaged and learning during the summer months. The "summer slide" refers to the loss of academic skills and knowledge that can occur when students are out of school for an extended period.
Here are some ideas to help prevent the summer slide and ensure that your child continues to learn and grow during the summer months:
Create a Summer Reading Plan: Encourage your child to read regularly over the summer. Visit the library together to choose books that interest them, and set aside time each day for reading. Consider setting up a reward system to incentivize consistent reading habits.
Incorporate Learning into Daily Activities: Learning doesn't have to be confined to textbooks. Take advantage of everyday activities to teach your child new concepts. For example, involve them in cooking and baking to teach them about measurements and fractions, or explore nature together to learn about plants and animals.
Encourage Writing: Encourage your child to write regularly, whether it's keeping a journal, writing letters to family members, or creating their stories or poems. Writing helps reinforce literacy skills and encourages creativity.
Stay Consistent and Positive: Consistency is key to preventing the summer slide. Set realistic goals and routines for learning activities, but also be flexible and allow for plenty of downtime and relaxation. Celebrate your child's achievements and encourage them to approach learning with a positive attitude.
By implementing these strategies and making learning a priority throughout the summer, you can help your child maintain their academic skills and even discover new interests and talents. Together, let's make this summer a time of growth, exploration, and fun!
