Dear Marion City Schools Community,
With spring in full swing, we’re enjoying the warmer weather and celebrating the conclusion of winter sports while looking ahead to an exciting season for our spring athletes.
Today, I want to focus on an important update regarding school security—an ongoing conversation we’ve had throughout this year. The safety and well-being of our students, staff, and visitors remain our highest priority. Beyond physical security, we want everyone in our buildings to feel safe, valued, and a true part of our school community.
Starting in fall 2025, we will implement a series of security updates based on input from nearly 1,100 survey responses and discussions with our Board of Education, staff, and community. These enhancements include policy and crisis response improvements, upgraded building security measures, portable weapon and vaping detectors, and expanded mental health supports to ensure a safe and supportive school environment.
A detailed outline of these updates is available below. And if you have any questions or want additional information, don’t hesitate to reach out to your school leaders.
A safe school is a strong school. Thank you for your continued partnership in making our schools a place where every student can learn and grow.
Sincerely,
Brian Murphy,Superintendent
