Principal's Message
Dear Parents,
As we gear up for the upcoming Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) for our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders, I want to emphasize the importance of preparation and taking it seriously. As recommended last month. Please prepare your Cubs by having a good night's rest and a light breakfast. Let them know that this assessment does not determine whether they move to the next grade but helps us (teachers and staff) know if we are on the right trajectory as a school. Remind them to take it seriously and do their very best. Patience and stamina is key. Encourage your Cub to pace themselves, ask questions, and give their best effort during this assessment period.
Let's also take the time to celebrate our dedicated staff this week from May 6-10. They work tirelessly to support our students and deserve all the recognition and gratitude we can offer. The amazing team that keeps Kenmore Cubs safe and thriving include our teachers, guest teachers, classified staff, school nurse, custodial, kitchen, office staff and bus drivers.
Eleven years ago, this month, I lost my very first teacher, my mother. Recently, I had an "Aha" moment, realizing the profound impact my mother has had on my life. Her words of wisdom and advice ring true more than ever. As we approach Mother's Day, I am sending heartfelt wishes to all mothers or those who fulfill the role of a mother within our school community. Your care and encouragement influence the upcoming generation, and we appreciate all your efforts.
Wishing you a joyous month of May!
Geetha George-Shapiro
Principal

Technology Updates for Grades 2-5
Students will keep their devices this summer!
Students currently in grades 2-5 will be keeping their assigned computing devices over the summer months to allow for continuous learning. Students and families are expected to take care of their assigned device by keeping it charged and in its bag when not in use. Students who are enrolled in summer learning programs are expected to bring their device to summer programs each day. If families need support using their device or troubleshooting technical issues, they should create a help ticket at http://go.nsd.org/studenttechhelp.
Withdrawing students must turn in devices by their last day of school date.
Families who are withdrawing from Northshore are expected to return any technology devices assigned to their student, including computers, tablets, hotspots and all accessories such as bags and chargers. Withdrawing students who do not return their devices and accessories will be issued a fine for replacement.
Questions and Answers:
What should a family do if they need to return a device over the summer?
Families should be directed to turn the device into the school as soon as they know they are leaving the district. If that happens in July, they will return the device and accessories at the Administration Center. Otherwise they will return it to the school during summer operational hours in August.
If a family needs tech support over the summer, who should they contact?
The first point of contact should be any teacher or staff member who is working with that student through summer programming. If that staff member is unable to help, then the family can make a tech ticket at http://go.nsd.org/studenttechhelp. STSs are not expected to support students over the summer.
How can we ensure that students take good care of their devices over the summer?
Feel free to post this handy one-pager to your website and/or post the content in a summer newsletter or other communications. It may also be a good thing to print and send home in a summer packet or end of year materials.
