CDS - First Program
The Weekly Word from CDS FP - December 10-December 14, 2018
Looking Back
Happy Holidays!
Winter Break has begun, and I wish everyone all the best over the vacation. I always look forward to hearing students’ stories of their adventures and travels - teachers’, too for that matter! I am writing this from Vancouver; I am in Canada with family for the winter break.
Just prior to going away on break, we had a busy week at school. Parents of new students who will be joining our school in term 3 had orientation meetings with teachers. We will have five new students beginning with us in 2019:
PK Lim, Jaejoon
PK Yoon, Jiseop
K Kim, Soonwoong
K Lee, Siyeon
3 Dadoua, Zein
Thank you to the FP PTA for volunteering their time and effort. Parents came in to school to take down the many winter and Christmas decorations around and about the First Program - many thanks!
Candle Lighting Ceremony and the House Breakfast wrapped up the week. All students - First Program, Middle School, High School - joined together in the Dalton Hall to celebrate the success attained in the first two semesters of the school year. It is always a treat for all the students to be together. It is an opportunity for the students to see performances from other divisions that they do not often get to encounter. Our 3s & 4s sang for the whole school. Middle School orchestra played wonderfully, and the High School Choir wowed us all with a spectacular performance. I hope this inspired some of our young learners in FP, seeing how talented our MS and HS students have become. Led by the HS Choir, all the staff and students sang our student-created school song. Students also facilitated the event: FP students in the audio/visual booth, MS and HS house music, FP ushers, and a collaborative effort among FP, MS, and HS as the emcees. Well done, everyone!
A dozen students from FP and MS were recognized for their achievement in the 6 Cs: Community, Collaboration, Communication, Curiosity, Critical Thinking, and Character. In an effort to recognize a greater variety of students, only students who were not previously chosen in the past two years were eligible. We have so many great students; we want to recognize them for their success. At the Candle Lighting Ceremony, we recognized students with stellar achievement. At the end of the year, we hope to recognize students who have shown tremendous growth. Great job, FP!
Again, best wishes over the break, and we will see you in the New Year.
Educationally Yours,
Mr. Hill

In the Spotlight
This week we are featuring P.E., and G1B. Thank you Mr. Tronsgard and Ms. Bahr.
P.E. with Mr. Tronsgard
In the past couple of weeks in PE, the students were introduced to the game of volleyball. They learned proper form and body positioning for passing both underhand and overhead as well as serving.
“Sometimes it is hard, but it is still fun!" Kelly Kim
“It’s so fun to bump!” Yuna Eom
Grade 1 with Ms. Bahr
This week, 1B finished our combined science and social studies project. We created our own world with land and water forms that we talked about in science, as well as map components that we learned about in social studies. The students worked really hard to make their project unique and to include elements of what they learned. They then got a chance to share their creation with their peers!
While sharing, Junseong commented on Claire’s project, ”I like how you put flowers on all of your hills! Nice work!”
