🧡 What Parents Can Do to Help Students Prepare:
Make sure that your child is well rested and eats a healthy breakfast.
Talk to your child about testing: Let them know that assessment is a regular part of learning. Make sure they understand why they are being tested and how it is important.
Keep state tests in perspective: Reduce your child’s anxiety about the test by reminding them that it is just one measure of learning, and another way to find out where their academic strengths and weaknesses are. Remind them of what they do well, and how they have improved with effort.
Reassure your child that no matter the outcome of the test, you will still love them. Encourage them to simply do their best.

Social Studies
💯 On Monday, students will take a quiz over the Five Themes of Geography. Students will be able to use one page of notes that we crafted together in class. These notes will offer some guidance, but they are also expected to study and prepare for some portions of the quiz on their own.
🧭 Attached below is a "study guide" that students and families may use to guide discussion on these topics. Students should understand the key concepts of each theme. They should also be able to apply these concepts to describe a familiar place, such as Kingsley or the state of Michigan.
🌳 As we continue into the week, students will work on their map skills and, in honor of Earth Day, explore the theme of environmental awareness with the movie, "Over the Hedge."

Read 180
📈 Reading progress sheets will be sent home this week for those who do not come to conferences. Be on the lookout for your student to bring it home.
🌊 This week, we continued reading about the California water shortage of 2014. Ask your student what they have learned about it, how they might conserve water, and ways that experts suggest we use less water in the future!
📌 As we near the end of the year, students in READ 180 will be expected to do a bit more work independently during class. As always, I’m happy with confusion and questions. Moving forward, certain assignments in READ 180 will not have the option to be turned in late or made up. There will be a note in PowerSchool for all assignments that may not be made up outside of class. Please let me know if you have any questions at akonesko@kingsleyschools.org.
Spanish
💯 Your student should know how to count to 100 now! You can quiz them :) We are going to test our skills by playing a card game called "99". You can play this game in English as well! Have your child show you how to play. It involves some simple addition and subtraction.
🐲 This week, we are starting to talk about a famous Mexican legend about the Chupacabras. We will be watching the movie Chupa. It is rated PG.
