10th Annual FSD Battle of the Books
On March 25th, 24 PGMS fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth-grade students will battle it out at the Williamson County Public Library against students from FIS and FMS. They will be answering trivia questions about 8 specific books. The running score from the past 9 years is PGMS = 10 wins, FIS = 4 wins, and FMS = 4 wins. Students have worked hard to read the Battle Books and claim their spot on the team. Now they are preparing for the big Battle by rereading and quizzing each other over the books. Wish us luck!

COUNSELOR'S CORNER
Colleen Vangelist, Guidance Counselor
Hello PGMS Families!
Spring is just around the corner, and as we welcome March, it’s a great time to focus on healthy habits that support both academic success and overall well-being. This month, we’re spotlighting National Sleep Awareness Week and its importance for middle school students. See some sleep tips below!
Establish a Routine: Encourage a consistent bedtime and wake-up time, even on weekends. A regular schedule helps regulate the body’s internal clock.
Create a Relaxing Bedtime Routine: Develop calming pre-sleep rituals, such as reading a book, listening to soothing music, or practicing relaxation techniques.
Limit Screen Time: Reduce exposure to screens (phones, tablets, computers) at least an hour before bedtime, as the blue light emitted can interfere with sleep.
Promote a Sleep-Friendly Environment: Ensure the bedroom is cool, dark, and quiet. A comfortable mattress and minimal noise can significantly improve sleep quality.
Encourage Physical Activity: Regular physical activity during the day can help improve sleep quality.
Here’s to a restful and productive March!
Warm regards,
Colleen VangelistGRADE LEVEL NEWS
6th Grade
Mrs. Rich's sixth graders worked hard on their Ancient China Projects. The students made infographics, timelines, or brochures about ancient China. They did an amazing job on the information and the graphic design of their projects. To "show off" their projects, they participated in a gallery walk. Each student spent five minutes reviewing their peers' work. The observer left two reviews. They gave their peers a "glow" (explaining what they did really well) and a "grow" (constructive feedback on what they could have done better). It was such a positive experience.
Enjoy these fabulous pictures of your 6th grade students on their field trip to the adventure science center!
RELATED ARTS
AEROSPACE
We were elated to allow our Introduction to Aerospace students the opportunity to display their learning and skills during the Demonstration Day on February 24th! The students expertly engaged those in attendance which included FSD Director of Schools Dr. David Snowden, Associate Director of School Dr. Mary Decker, Tennessee Commissioner of Education Lizette Reynolds, TDOE CTE Senior Coordinator Johnathon Michael, Williamson County Senator Jack Johnson, Franklin Alderman Matt Brown, and representatives from FedEx. While the attendees learned in-flight controls on the simulators, they were all very impressed with what our students were able to teach them. This opportunity was captured by Channel 5 News and Williamson Source! Click on this link for the Channel 5 News video. https://youtu.be/lCoPePVscB0
ART
Two deserving artists from each grade level have been selected to have their art on display at The Frist Art Museum in Nashville. These students have been invited to a Frist Museum Field Trip, exclusive to selected artists in the district. Our PGMS Artists will visit the student show, tour the art galleries with a provided docent, and enjoy creating in the Art Quest studio! We are so proud of these students for representing PGMS!
8th grade : Renee Moore and Gabi Diaz-Barriga
7th grade : Adriana Fuentez Gallegos and Andrea Gonzalez
6th grade : Gunnar Guidry and Audrey Baer
5th grade: Marcail Callahan and Stella Gutierrez-Jones
STEM
5th Grade STEM students learn how to make homemade sensors to use with the games they code! We start with a basic game. The students then create a new iteration of that game! These students also figure out puzzles based on 6 criteria, design 3D art, and much more!
6th Grade STEM students preparing for the upcoming Invention Convention on March 27! They have worked diligently to complete prototypes, trifolds, and pitches for their inventions! We wish them the best at the Invention Convention Contest at MTSU!
On February 25, three different 7th Grade STEM classes launched a weather balloon and later tracked data sent from an attached StratoTrack. The younger PGES students enjoyed learning stations manned by STEM 7th graders prior to the launch. This year all of our weather balloons traveled all the way to Georgia, just above Atlanta!
