Bear Blast
Week of Sept 16, 2024
Working together; succeeding together.
As Treaty people, we take this moment to honor the lands of Treaties 4 and 6, and all they have provided to us and our families across many generations. These lands have long served as traditional meeting grounds, gathering places, and traveling routes for the Cree, Dene, Nakota, Dakota, Saulteaux, and Ojibway peoples since time immemorial. We also recognize these lands as the homeland of Métis Nation Eastern Region II.
We honor the ancestors whose footsteps have shaped these lands. We acknowledge that our use of these lands has come at a profound cost, including the impacts of colonialism and the residential school system. With this recognition, we commit to working together toward reconciliation and forging a path forward that honors the past and builds a better future for all.

Window of Tolerance
We will start our work around self regulation with looking at the students' window of tolerance.
Window of Tolerance refers to a zone that we possess and want to stay in during the course of the day regardless of the challenge or demands. Though there will be slight fluctuations in our arousal states during the day depending on the demands, the key to operating at our very best is to make sure our arousal state is appropriate and that we do not get too hyper-aroused or too hypo-aroused.
Everybody’s arousal states change throughout the day in response to stressors. The key is to make sure that one’s arousal state is appropriate to what is going on. What do we mean by appropriate?
a)During the day and at school - an appropriate arousal state would be “Calm and Alert” as this allows you to be the very best of you who can be to learn and positively interact with families and friends
b)Before bed – An hour or two before bed-time it is more appropriate to fade somewhat into hypo-arousal so that you can more easily fall asleep.
c)Before a competition – When one has to perform (sport, recital, etc.), the most appropriate state that will assist you in being your best would be more hypo-aroused.
d)Inappropriate Arousal States – Examples of inappropriate arousal states would include:
•Being hyper-aroused while learning or before bed
•Being hypo-aroused before a championship game.
Some people have a wider window of tolerance than others - but there are daily things everyone can do to expand their own.
The goal of living happy and well is being the best of who we can be no matter what is happening around us.
A great way to understand Self-Reg is to compare it to a house thermostat.
•To maintain the appropriate temperature in a home (optimal arousal state) when external conditions change (too hot or too cold), a thermostat can be adjusted in response by heating things up or cooling them down to achieve a balance.
•The practice of Self-Reg does the same thing: when we become aware of changes in our body, feelings and thoughts that indicate something is pushing us out of our optimal state, we can respond with strategies and approaches that help us get back to a balanced state
A thermostat is much different than a thermometer as it just reacts to and reflects external temperatures.
So … we want to learn how to be a thermostat instead of a thermometer

Thank you for once again supporting our two Small But Mighty warriors by sending in you pop tabs. We made sure that the Kirkland clan got them so they could get where they needed to be.
MONDAY IS PJ DAY!!!
Bear Bites Snack Program
Thanks to a generous grant from Mosaic and the Saskatchewan School Boards Association, PPCS is now able to offer snacks to our students at no charge. We have just been firing the program up, but when it is fully functional we hope to have 2 snack options available to our students. Made by students, for our students.
So far we have offered muffins, veggies and dip, and most recently; chips and salsa.
We ask that students are conscientious in how much they take, so that every one can enjoy a snack.

Fuel Good
My wife always tells me that I should never let my gas get below 1/4 tank. This week, break that rule. Let's all empty our tanks and fill them up on Tuesday. 10 cents from each liter sold goes to PPCS to help support extracurricular travel. Grab a burger while your are there, proceeds will also go to the school. Huge thanks to Parkland Coop for giving us the opportunity and the PPCS SCC for volunteering their time.

Check Your Punch Card Balance
Please note, as we get used to this new system, please be aware that punch card balances may be up to 1 week behind.
Once you click the link below and find your child's account number, you will see a number to the left of their account number (i.e. 17). That number will not change, so you only have to remember that number going forward.
We hope that this will help our families.
