Principal's Message
It is great to have Sany-Joy Mareroa back at school after her experience in Noumea. I am sure she is happy to be settled back in Rotorua.
Friday was a day filled with mixed emotions. While it was sad to bid farewell to Karen Tabuteau, we couldn't help but share her excitement as she looks forward to a new chapter in Wellington with her family. The assembly prepared by Kakano and Mrs Thomson was a fitting tribute to Karen, filled with laughter and fond memories.
We extend a warm welcome back to Eliana Maxwell, who is taking over Room 14. It's a pleasure to have Eliana return to our school community.
We have a team of students competing in the Chess tournament in Taupo this Thursday. Mr G is accompanying them. We wish them well.
This Friday, over seventy of our Year 5 and 6 students will be heading to Aquinas College for the much-anticipated Kahui Ako Sport and Cultural Event. They will be participating in a wide range of activities, including netball, football, hockey, ripper rugby, chess, speeches, scripture reading, drama, and religious questions. We are excited to see them showcase their talents and represent our school with pride.
Our teacher-only day is Tuesday, June 4th. The school will be closed, so if you need child care please contact Mary-Ann Roling on 0211 215599
On Friday, June 7th, we will attend Mass to celebrate the Sacred Heart. Mass is at 9:00 a.m., and you are all welcome to join us.
Have a great week.
David Macmillan
Principal.
Director of Religious Studies
We are celebrating the feast of the Sacred Heart on Friday 7th June, with a whole school Mass at 9 am. It would be lovely if you could join us for this occasion.
The Solemnity of the most Sacred Heart of Jesus falls on the 19th day after Pentecost. Saint Margaret Mary is the Patron Saint of devotees to the Sacred Heart. She had many visions of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Here is a little prayer to say before the feast day next week. Sacred Heart of Jesus, I implore you to simplify my life, worry less, and be concerned about what is important in life-living for the good of others. Amen
Sadly, only a few students put their names forward to become an Altar Server. If your child is 8 and they have made their First Holy Communion they are eligible and will receive training. Please let Mrs Dobson know if your child is interested.
I hope you have a wonderful week.
God bless
Lorna Dobson

Structured Literacy
This week we will focus on telling you a little about spelling and reading lessons at our school.
Many people think that Structured Literacy is simply the teaching of just phonics. While this is a key element, it is only one part of the approach which includes many elements.
Structured Literacy is a comprehensive, evidence-based approach to teaching reading and writing that emphasises the underlying structure and rules of language. It is designed to help students develop a strong foundation in literacy skills by explicitly teaching the connections between letters, sounds, and meaning.
In a literacy block, Structured Literacy encompasses phonics/spelling, reading using decodables and authentic texts, writing, handwriting, oral language, and shared reading. These components collectively support the explicit teaching of the elements of Structured Literacy.
All of our students particpate in Reading, Writing and Spelling lessons every day. These are sometimes whole class lessons and sometimes in small groups.
