4. Center Faculty Advised Newly Updated Dietary Guidelines for Americans
The US Departments of Agriculture (USDA) and Health and Human Services (HHS) released the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2020-2025. The guidelines provide science-based recommendations designed to foster healthy dietary patterns for Americans of all ages – from birth through older adults. Importantly, this edition expands the guidance, including recommended healthy dietary patterns for infants and toddlers. The Center’s Dr. Jamie Stang sat on the 2020 Dietary Guidelines for American Committee, which advised these guidelines.

5. UMN Women’s Health Research Conference: Stigma, Racism, and Women’s Health
Tuesday, January 26, 2021┃2:00 - 4:30 PM CST
This half-day event features plenary presentations, panel discussion, and a poster session on women’s health research. It draws interdisciplinary women’s health researchers, health care providers, students, and community public health professionals for a day of virtual learning, networking and research dissemination. Center faculty member Dr. Rachel Hardeman will be a featured panelist.

7. "I Had to Fight for My VBAC": A Mixed Methods Exploration of Women's Experiences of Pregnancy and Vaginal Birth After Cesarean in the US
This study collected information on vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) through an online questionnaire. Results showed a theme of obstacles for individuals who planned on a VBAC. Obstacles included denial of care by providers and state/hospitals policies. Of participants who planned a VBAC, peer support and doula support were common in helping them through the process.

Multiple Dates and Times
This course is an interactive, intensive overview of focus group procedures that can be used in public and non-profit environments. Practical approaches to determining the appropriate use of focus group studies, design options, developing questions, recruiting participants, moderating skills, and analyzing and reporting results are emphasized.

10. Law, Policy, & Ethics with Breast/Chestfeeding Friendly Environments

Speakers include Jessica Lee, JD, of the Center for WorkLife Law and Natasha Frost, JD, from the Mitchell Hamline Public Health Law Center. Bring questions and challenges - they will have breakout sessions to explore issues with other lactation professionals and advocates. There is a registration fee to attend.
11. Preparing for Replication: Identifying Core Components

This Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs (AMCHP) webinar will focus on how to identify the core components of a practice to prepare for replication. Core components will be defined, participants will learn how to identify them, and how to use them to determine how to modify/adapt a practice to their context. This webinar is open to anyone interested in learning more about core components. For those unable to attend, the webinar will be recorded and posted on AMCHP’s website.

13. Challenge: P4-Innovations in Pediatric Primary Care to Improve Child Health
MCHB launched the Promoting Pediatric Primary Prevention (P4) Challenge competition to respond to declining rates of childhood vaccination coverage and well-child visits due to COVID-19. The P4 Challenge will award $1 million in prizes for innovative approaches to increase access to and utilization of well-child visits and/or immunizations services within primary care settings. Submissions will open on January 19, 2021.
14. Call for Manuscripts: The Implications of COVID-19
In 2020, NCFR, its journals, and journals from other organizations began to explore the effects of the global pandemic through family scholarship. The following are still accepting manuscripts:
- COVID-19 and Implications for Families — Family Relations: Interdisciplinary Journal of Applied Family Science (FR), published by NCFR. Deadline: ongoing
- Pedagogy in the Wake of a Pandemic — Family Science Review Deadline: extended to Jan. 29, 2021
