⭐There Is A Leader IN ME! ⭐
University ACES is a Leader in Me school. We believe that every student is a leader and strive to help students find what they are most passionate about. We continue to focus on the 8 Habits, which are woven through our culture at UAE. Ask your student how they live the habits and take a few minutes to talk about the Habit of the Month - Habit 8 - Find Your Voice. We work with our learners to find their voice each day. People who have found their voice focus on expanding their circle of influence, being trustworthy, building trust, blending the voices of others and creating a common vision. Those who have found their voice pair their talents with their passions and use them to empower others.
UAE Schoolwide W.I.G (Wildly Important Goal) - 100% percent of UAE students will engage (work on) their math and reading calendar and turn it in after the last day of the month each month.
This does NOT mean every square is filled out on the calendar but rather that our students are taking time to try some of both the math and reading activities each month.
Thank you so much for your partnership at home. WE are committed to greatness together.
UAE Staff Appreciation Week May 8 - 12!
We have the opportunity to recognize and celebrate our teachers and staff the first week in May. Our Student Lighthouse Team (one student from each class who meets regularly with building leadership to support our school) has decided they would like to throw them a party!
The students thought it would be VERY fun to have musical chairs and a cakewalk where teachers can 'win' $5 gift card prizes.
Please watch for a schedule of the week, and how you can help to support us as we honor our amazing staff at UAE❤️
If you would be willing to donate, by sending a $5 gift card(s), to school please have your student bring them to the office. They can be put in an envelope marked Teacher Appreciation and sent to our school office by Friday, April 28.
Special Magnet School Added-Value Experiences
Donations Welcome!
We have such an engaging and exciting spring planned for our learners at University ACES Elementary!
Our older students are working hard on their 4th Grade Innovation Fair projects and 5th Grade STEM Wax Museum. They will be presenting their work to outside judges the morning of Thursday, May 25. Look for a sign-up to help and volunteer. The afternoon of May 25 we are very excited for our students to share their hard work as part of our Leadership Day celebration.
We are looking to build our prop bin for our Wax Museum project and give students more opportunities to dress up as the person they have researched. Here are the items we are looking for as donations: Lab Coats, Ties, Suit Jackets, Button Up shirts, Wigs, Glasses, Scrubs, Graduation Gown, etc.
Please send any materials in with your student and label as 'Wax Museum' donation.

Volunteer News
We Our UAE Volunteers!
Last week was National Volunteer Appreciation and we want to let you know just how appreciated all our volunteers are.
We are so grateful to all of you who have so generously given our students and staff your time to help with the many needs we have in our school. Whether you help in the classroom, the workroom, with Talent Development/Enrichment, at evening events or in any other way, we simply couldn't do it without your help.
This year at University, volunteers have recorded approximately 1800 hours and counting. Every time you walk into our building you are making a huge impact.
Congratulations to Wendy Schulte. The March Volunteer of the Month.
Wendy volunteers at University several times each week and spends most of her time helping with Baggie Books and in the workroom. She has been volunteering at our school for 3 ½ years. Wendy is generous in so many ways and a joy to work with.
Volunteers helped in many different ways this Winter including: Hanging Art, At Home Projects, Baggie Books, Classroom Help, Crock Luck Staff Dinner, Destination Imagination Club, Family Nights, Field Trips, Every Meal Weekend Food Packs, Fundraisers, Kindergarten Skillbuilders, Kitchen Food Server, Lost & Found, Math Plus, Parent Panel, PTO Meetings, and Helping with Projects in the Workroom.

Health Services
Minnesota is starting to see an uptick in influenza cases, according to new data from the state department of health. Now is the perfect opportunity to remind your students about healthy habits to prevent the spread of germs and illness. Use these conversation tips at home to stay healthy this school year:
Wash hands frequently: Scrub hands and fingers with soap and clean water for at least 20 seconds.
Cover coughs and sneezes: Use an elbow or a tissue.
Avoid touching your face: Germs can enter your body through your eyes, nose and mouth.
Practice healthy eating habits: Food is your body’s fuel. Choosing well-balanced meals boosts energy and health. Avoid sharing food/drinks/utensils with others.
Get plenty of rest: Sleep is important and restores your mind and body.
When to stay home
If your child does get sick, keep them home from school so they don’t share their illness with others. Reference school district guidelines to help with this decision:
If a student has had a fever of 100 degrees or more, the student must stay home for 24 hours after the temperature returns to normal without fever reducing medication.
If a student has vomited or had diarrhea, the student must stay home until 24 hours after the last episode.
If a student has had any rash that may be disease-related or the cause is unknown, check with your family physician before sending the student to school.
If a student is ill, please call the school daily to report the illness.
