Coach Leonard secures career win 100 in 1st round of states match up
The Girls’ Tennis Team defeated Triton, 4-1 in the first round of the NJSIAA Tournament. This win was extra special as we celebrated our 5 seniors on senior day and Coach Leonard's 100th victory of her career. The team is now 9 and 3 on the season and will travel to Shawnee on Tuesday for the 2nd round of the NJSIAA tennis tournament.
Football Improves to 5-0 with thrilling come from behind victory over Southern
The Golden Eagle football team is off to a hot start as they enter this Fridays' game against Barnegat at 5-0. The team is coming off back to back weeks of wins against 2 rival schools, in Lacey and Southern. Through 5 games senior quarterback Joe Vezzosi has thrown for 917 yards and 13 touchdowns At the wide receiver position the Golden Eagles have a two headed monster in Senior Royalty Riley who has 20 receptions for 330 yards and 4 touchdowns and Sophomore C.J. Yates who enters week 6 with 15 receptions for 342 yards and 5 touchdown receptions. On the ground Nick Ruggiero has ran for 515 yards and 4 touchdowns. Zach Cramer leads the defense with 42 tackles, while Austin Jarvis and
Nnaemeka Amaechina each have 36 tackles.
Girls Soccer improves to 6-1-1, with win over previous unbeaten Lacey
The Central Regional Girls Soccer team has it rolling again as they have won six in a row. None was bigger than their 3-2 win over unbeaten rival Lacey 3-2. In that game, Leah DeCillo, Claudia Scarpitti, and Shelby Parks all scored goals. Parks' goal comes with a minute left on the clock to secure the win. Within the winning streak Central has also defeated Matawan, Toms River South, New Egypt, Jackson, and Long Branch. Shelby Parks and Leah Dicillo lead the team with 5 goals each while Ava Schmidhauser has 4 goals. The team is anchored by Emma Christensen and Nicole Kangas in the backfield. The Golden Eagles will host Toms River North in a key A South match on October 2nd under the lights at Central Regional.
Central Boys Soccer enters key A South battle against TRN at 5-3
Boys Varsity soccer team has won 3 out of their last 4 games as they gear up to battle Toms River North on October 2nd. In their last 4 games they defeated Pt Boro 2-0 behind goals from Jordan Benzon and Danny Palheta. The defense was led by Captain Devont King Reilly, Michael Boyer, and Connor Azzarone. They helped Goalkeeper Kaden Stout earn his first Varsity shut out. They also dominated Jackson Memorial in a 6-2 win. Leading the team was Jordan Benzon with 2 goals, Blake Crutchley with 3 assists, Ilyas Ciltepe with 2 assists, and Landon Kavanaugh, Dylan Konfederak, and Joey Centanni each had goals. In their final tune up prior to Toms River North the team defeated Red Bank Regional 2-1 on a goal by Ilyas Ciltepe in overtime.
Field Hockey improves to 6-3 as they defeat St. Rose
The Central Regional Field Hockey Team picked up two big wins against Wall 1-0 and St. Rose 3-1. In their great conference win against Wall Township Sianna Valverde sealed the win with a goal from Gianna Urcinole. They then defeated St. Rose 3-1. In the victory Jaelynn Witte, Melissa Bickford, and Amelia Wenzel all added goals and Ryann Dunn tallied 3 assists to bring home the win. On the year, Sianna Valverde has 8 goals and 4 assists while Ryann Dunn has 4 goals and 6 assists.
Girls Volleyball enters midway point in season at 5-5
The Central Regional Volleyball team picked up key wins over Jackson Memorial, Brick, and Brick Memorial over their last few games. In their victory over A south Rival Jackson Memorial the team had 12 Aces, Halee Smentkowski lead the team with 9 Kills ,and Kate O'Blek had 19 Assists. The team then hosted Brick and once again were lead by Katie O'Blek with 19 assist and Halee Smentkowski with 8 kills. The team then traveled to Brick Memorial and pulled off a huge upset as the entire team played well. The girls travel to Southern today in a A South match up.
Boys and Girls CC defeat Lacey in dual meet
The CR girls cross country team ran to a thrilling victory over cross town rival Lacey Township 28-29. Leading the way to victory was first place finisher Cailyn Wenger followed closely behind by Laina Hoffman. Rounding out the central finishers were Mia Rodriguez, Sofia Canizares Garcia, Ava Foerster and Emma Brooks. Awesome job girls!!
The boys cross country team defeated Lacey22-39, with a strong team performance. Sophomore Rich Casey led the way finishing second overall. Vin Trematerra, Javier Sanchez, TJ Snyder, and Tyler Donaldson all scored points in support. Vaughn Selzer and Liam Ropollo ran season best times and held of many of Lacey's top runners to secure the win.
Gymnastics on the hunt for a A South Divisional Championship
Central Regional stay in the hunt for the "A" south title by defeating Southern 103.375 to 101.6. Central was lead by Freshman Alex Frulio and her 9 on vault, 9.075 on bars, and 9.1 on floor. Other top performers were Emma Camara (9) and Cate Pongratz (9.2) on vault and Gabriella Baudo (8.7250) on floor. The Golden Eagles are now 3-1 on the year.
