Burke Bulletin #9
December 1st, 2024
A season of giving, gratitude and grace.
The next three weeks are busy ones here at BTS: conferences, snow, celebrations, etc! It's also important that we find time to slow down, appreciate, give thanks and give back. We here at BTS are trying to do all of that, and we could really use your help! We have three big opportunities to give and support, or be supported by, your community: a toy drive, a coat drive and our very own Holiday Shoppe! We also have our Student Led Conferences coming up this week. Conferences are an opportunity to hear about the pride your student takes in their learning, what they love, what they need a little support in, and what goals they are setting for trimester 2. We will have babysitting available for little (or big) siblings during the time of your child's conference. This will be in the library with Ms. Branson Gill and Mrs. Hubacz. Now for a few things our teachers and students have been working on that I am extremely grateful for:
- Our K-2 students are about to embark on a trip around the world! Mrs. Garske, Ms. Morris and Ms. Lake will be taking their students around the world to learn about many holidays that are celebrated this time of year. Students will (virtually) circle the globe to learn about different traditions, celebrations and ways of bringing light to the dark, chilly, winter months.
- Our 4th graders will be working hard to get the Holiday Shoppe up and running in time for our Winter Break. More information about the Holiday Shoppe can be found on the BTS Facebook page. We rely on donations from our BTS community to make the shoppe a reality, so thank you to all those who are able to make this happen for our students.
- Our 5-6 team finished their writing unit with some outstandingly creative stories! There are thrillers, capers, wizards and mysteries. All can be found in outside Mrs. Reed's classroom.
- Our 7-8 team just wrapped up their STEAM unit all about bridges, during which they constructed and tested their own bridges, learned about the historical importance different bridges around the world, and visited our very own Hayden's Crossing Bridge. You can see some pictures of student bridges below!
- The Robotics Club is hard at work preparing for a competition coming up this month. They are building an amazing course and coding their robot through many challenges. It's so cool to see!
One community update: we will not be having a winter concert, but hope to hold a Mud Season Jam this spring! We are currently searching for a long-term music substitute, as well as a long-term art substitute, so please encourage any eligible candidates to apply through SchoolSpring.com or reach out to Ms. Branson Gill with questions. Thank you for your understanding and patience while find the best possible solution available for our creative needs.
