HEIGHTS
BLACK HISTORY SCAVENGER HUNT
Throughout February, elementary students across the Roslyn School District learned about the stories and achievements of African Americans. At Heights, students took part in an interactive challenge called the Black History Month Scavenger Game. Each day, classroom teachers received three envelopes with clues about a celebrated Black American. After the name of the person was revealed, the class searched for a photo of that person in the hallways. Once found, the teacher clicked on the QR code posted next to their photo to access a video about the person, which students watched after they returned to their classrooms.

A total of seventy coasters were constructed, each with a creative theme, such as: Endless Cosmos, Get Out of My Swamp, and Love Tunnel. Students had a chance to view each other's work during a multi-day science carnival—held in the library just prior to the winter recess. Students sent marbles down each rollercoaster to test their construction, then voted for three top spots.
