National High Blood Pressure Education Month
Do you know the signs of high blood pressure? It’s a trick question because high blood pressure, also known as the “silent killer,” typically has no symptoms. The only way to know your risk is to have your blood pressure checked.
This May, during National High Blood Pressure Education Month, do yourself and your family a favor:
- Have your blood pressure checked and learn what your numbers mean by using the American Heart Association's interactive blood pressure tool.
- Take simple steps to control your numbers. Work with family and friends to kickstart a new healthy habit: move more (find a physical activity you enjoy), eat smart (strive to eat a well-balanced low salt diet, limit alcohol), and be well (manage stress, practice mindfulness).
- Challenge others that you care about to know their numbers too.
Annual Physical Requirement
Did you know? You can earn one bonus point if you complete your annual physical by June 30, 2024? The bonus point will be added at the end of the fiscal quarter.
The SASD Wellness Program year runs from November 1 - October 31 every year. To achieve an incentive on your insurance premium, you (and your spouse, if applicable) must complete an annual physical and engage in the approved wellness activities. Please refer to the approved wellness activities listed in the Wellness Program Summary or on the Wellworks For You Portal.
Superfoods to Add to Your Grocery List
Superfoods provide many health benefits and contain health-boosting nutrients that you need to thrive, survive, and feel great. Such as vitamins, minerals, healthy fats, fiber, and antioxidants. Experts say it’s best to eat a well-balanced diet that includes a variety rather than focusing on a particular food. However, adding superfoods to a healthy eating plan can provide additional nutritional support. Click here to learn what some of the top superfoods are as well as their benefits, and how to incorporate them into your diet.
National Employee Health & Fitness Day
May 15th is National Employee Health & Fitness Day
National Employee Health and Fitness Day (NEHFD), is a national observance celebrated the third (3rd) Wednesday in May, and was created to promote the benefits of physical activity for individuals in the workplace.
The SASD will be competing with other organizations within the Sheboygan County to get as many employees as possible to incorporate at least 20 minutes of physical activity on this day. So put on your running shoes as we jog our way to National Employee Health and Fitness Day. 🏃
If you participate in this challenge, a Google Form link will follow after the event has ended to track all participants. You will also be entered into a raffle drawing for participating.
