A few words from Mr. Jelks...
Dear LIS Families,
Welcome back! I hope you and your families had a rejuvenating and enjoyable Spring Break. As we return to school, I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude for your continued support and involvement in our school community.
During our first assembly back, we emphasized the importance of kindness and respect towards one another. As we enter this final stretch of the school year, let's encourage our children to embody these values and to support each other in finishing the year on a strong note. By fostering an environment of positivity and encouragement, we can ensure that every student feels valued and motivated to succeed.
I would like to extend warm Easter greetings to you and your loved ones. May this joyous occasion be filled with happiness and hope for your family.
Thank you once again for your partnership in your child's education. Together, we can make the remainder of this school year a rewarding and successful experience for all.

Student Gardening with Ms. Blake
At LIS, students are embracing a hands-on approach to learning with Ms. Blake's gardening project. Since February 15th, they've been cultivating a diverse garden featuring Haida potatoes, carrots, snap peas, radishes, and beets.
Under Ms. Blake's guidance, the garden serves as more than just a patch of earth—it's a living classroom. Students learn about plant life cycles, soil health, and the interconnectedness of ecosystems firsthand. Math and science concepts come alive as they measure growth and observe the wonders of nature.
Beyond academics, the garden fosters teamwork, responsibility, and pride. As students watch their efforts blossom, they gain confidence and a sense of accomplishment.
As the seasons progress, so does the garden, offering endless opportunities for growth and discovery. With each seed sown, students cultivate not only plants but also a lifelong love for learning.
Free Family Fun Nights
Erase
I encourage you to explore the resources provided by the government of British Columbia through the ERASE program. ERASE (Expect Respect and A Safe Education) offers a plethora of information and support on various topics relevant to our school community. You can access these resources by visiting the following link: [ERASE Resources](https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/erase).
Furthermore, Safer Schools Together will host family sessions. These sessions aim to provide insights and tools to help navigate important issues concerning our children's well-being and safety. For more information about the upcoming family sessions and to register, please visit: [ERASE Family Session Information](https://pages.saferschoolstogether.com/erase-family-session).
In addition to the family sessions, I want to highlight the availability of a QR code for reporting incidents. This QR code provides a quick and confidential way for students and families to report any concerns or incidents that may arise. We take all reports seriously and are committed to addressing them promptly and appropriately.

Attendance
We ask parents/guardians to call the school before 9:00 am at (250) 245-3351 or email Info.LI@sd68.bc.ca to notify the school of your child’s absence. Please follow up with a note to your child’s teacher when your child returns to school so the teacher can address any missed work, homework issues, etc. Also a reminder that if students need to leave early, they should be signed out in the main office.
School Closure
The following is a reminder about the NLPS school closure procedure for students.
If schools are closed due to snow, or any other weather-related problems, announcements will be made on local radio stations (WOLF 106.9 FM, WAVE 102.3 FM, and 91.7 COAST FM) by 7 a.m., or earlier, on the day of the closure. Please do not call the radio station – tune in and listen for the announcements, which will be made on a regular basis.
In addition, the district will post the information on the district’s website, Twitter, Facebook, and mobile app. Families may also receive a message through the School Messenger notification system via phone, email, or text. Please keep in mind, however, that there may be situations where this is not always possible, for example, power outages or technical problems. The most reliable method is to listen to the local radio stations.
