I hope everyone had a chance to read my recent communication about Libby, Mrs. Toolan’s therapy dog, who will be joining us at Irving soon. Libby (see picture below) is a Goldendoodle, a “low-shed” and hypoallergenic breed, making her less likely to trigger allergies in students. Trained through the CARES program in Concordia, Kansas, Libby has been undergoing specialized training since she was 8 weeks old. She recently passed her Assistance Dog Public Access Certification Test, demonstrating her ability to remain calm, friendly, and well-mannered in various environments, including schools.

For the rest of this school year, Libby will spend her days with Mrs. Cummins, our social worker, who is trained to handle therapy dogs. Libby’s presence at Irving will provide emotional support, reduce stress, and bring joy to our students. While she won’t be in classrooms full-time, students will have opportunities to interact with her in different settings around the school.

Permission and Safety Information

To ensure everyone is comfortable and safe, we ask that you complete this digital permission slip. It’s essential for us to know if any student has allergies or concerns related to dogs. Please fill out the form as soon as possible, as we’ll need your responses before Libby officially begins her time at school.

Lastly, a quick reminder: There will be no school next week on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday for Thanksgiving break.

We're excited to announce a new partnership with West 40's truancy outreach services this year. Our school liaison, Jasmin Rodriguez, will be working closely with our students to improve attendance. Jasmin is here to help students overcome barriers to regular school attendance and ensure they have the support they need to succeed.
