Dryden Dolphin Splash Newsletter
April 13, 2020
Hello! We hope you have been able to enjoy the beautiful spring weather over the extended weekend! We look forward to kicking off Remote Learning 3.0 with you this week!
Here is the link to the landing page with all of the grade level remote learning plans for this week.
As Assistant Superintendent Dr. Fitzpatrick shared last week, Remote Learning 3.0 aligns better with recent guidance on time allocations for learning at home from the Illinois State Board of Education and aims to better meet the diverse needs of families in our school district.
For Kindergarten, this means about 30 minutes on Mondays for social emotional learning plus any special classes they may have, and about 90 minutes/day on Tuesdays - Thursdays.
For Grades 1 and 2, this means about 45 minutes on Mondays for social emotional learning plus any special classes they may have, and about 90 minutes/day on Tuesdays - Thursdays.
For Grades 3, 4 and 5, this means about 60 minutes on Mondays for social emotional learning plus any special classes they may have, and about 120 minutes/day on Tuesdays - Thursdays.
The district created a rotating schedule, so students can focus on specific subjects each day. Across the district, we will have blue and white remote learning days to build in predictability and common language for our families.
As in previous Remote Learning Days, please look for an email from the classroom teacher by 9:00 am each morning. This email will include the learning activities and schedule for the day. Please continue to fill out the attendance form, and email your child's teacher if you have any questions. Teachers will respond in a timely manner during normal school hours, 9:05 - 3:35.
I will be at Dryden on Wednesdays from 8:00 am - 12:00 pm, if you need to stop by and pick anything up, such as paper copies of remote learning activities. Please contact me at asessler@sd25.org or 847-398-4280 ext. 6501 in advance.
Also, please look for a survey from the D25 Department of Student Learning later this week as we want to continue to gather information about our families' experiences with Remote Learning.
Lately, I have been reflecting on the quote by futurist, writer and businessman Alvin Toffler, "The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn." We are ALL constantly needing to learn. We are having to unlearn many habits and ways that, up until recently, worked very well for us. We are having to relearn previous skills given our current circumstances - I recently relearned how to use my old sewing machine to make face masks! We are unlearning and relearning all while learning how to empower our children to own their learning at home!
This is extraordinary and exhausting work for teachers and parents who are attempting to balance many responsibilities over this long haul. As always, the health and well being of our students, staff and families remains our number one priority. We are here to help support one another through this. Thank you in advance for your continued support, patience and flexibility!
Sincerely,
Akemi Sessler, Principal

Event Cancellations
With our school closure and need to remain socially distant due to COVID-19, throughout our school district, all extracurricular activities, assemblies, performances, and field trips prior to May 22 are cancelled. We are looking into the possibilities of remote options and rescheduling events, and we will keep you apprised of any updates.

ABC/25 Get Burbed Challenge
Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) and the unique impact and uncertainty it continues to pose to our community, we have made the decision, with the support of Superintendent Dr. Lori Bein, to cancel the ABC/25 Get Burbed Challenge. This was a difficult decision to make but the safety and well-being of our race participants, volunteers, staff, and spectators is always a top priority.
The ABC/25 Foundation still needs your support in order to fully fund teacher grants in the upcoming school year. There are three ways you can still help. Every dollar earned goes directly back into our schools to bring students projects and programs that foster innovation and creativity.
1) Register as a virtual runner and run/walk your own 5K or 1 Mile on April 25, 2020! Post a picture on Twitter and tag ABC/25 Get Burbed Challenge to show your support! Register here!
2) Statefarm Agent, Jennifer Burnidge, will make a $10 donation to the ABC/25 Foundation for every person who completes an insurance quote in the month of April. When calling in for a quote, be sure to mention Quotes for Good and the ABC/25 Foundation for the quote to qualify. Call today! (847) 253-5678
3) Make a donation directly to the Foundation. All donations are tax deductible. Click here to donate.
We are already looking forward to the 2021 ABC/25 Get Burbed Challenge. Event updates and information are available at abc25challlenge.org and through social media on Facebook, TwitterFacebook and Instagram.
In the meantime, we encourage all of our participants, volunteers, event staff, partners and vendors to keep themselves and their loved ones safe and healthy during these unprecedented times.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support!
