Student Success Act: We Need Your Help!
Oregon's Student Success Act (SSA), a historic reinvestment in our public schools, was signed into law in May, 2019. When fully implemented, the Student Success Act will provide about $1 billion in additional funds for early learning and K–12 education each year. About half of these funds will go directly to Oregon public schools through the Student Investment Account, and will be focused on key areas for improvement: reducing class size, increasing instructional time, addressing health and safety needs and ensuring a well-rounded education.
Funds from the Student Investment Account will be distributed to Oregon school districts through a non-competitive grant application process. LOSD will be applying for approximately $5.2 million per year to invest in educational improvements aligned with LOSD’s community-informed strategic plan.
As part of our application, the district will be developing a plan for investing these additional funds to best support student success. We need staff, student, family and community voices in this conversation to help guide our plan. We want to hear from everyone, to make sure all students are represented.
We will be initiating this public engagement effort at Monday night's meeting of parent advisory committees. Following a presentation explaining the SSA, a survey will be made available online to begin collecting feedback from all stakeholders.
How you can join in:
- Learn: Learn more about the Student Success Act
- Watch: The SSA presentation at Monday's district-wide SAC meeting will be broadcast live on Facebook (@LOSDProud). Tune in!
- Watch: Can't watch live? Video of Monday's meeting will also be available for viewing starting Tuesday on the School Board meeting webpage.
- Engage: Beginning Monday evening, share your thoughts and priorities by completing the SSA survey. The link to the survey will be featured prominently on the district homepage.
- Stay Tuned: As part of our public engagement process, additional opportunities to attend listening sessions and community meetings will be announced. Please join in and share your thoughts and ideas.
