Marysville Message
March 22nd, 2024
Dear Marysville Families,
Happy Spring Break. I hope that everyone has a relaxing and enjoyable break.
If you notice that your child is missing any outerwear, backpacks, lunchboxes or other personal items please look for them in the school lost and found when we return to school. Our lost and found is now 6 racks of left behind coats, sweaters, shirts etc.
We have many wonderful activities planned for the last quarter of the school year. it is important for students to be showing up on time and everyday to participate in all the joy and learning that we have left.

- Families will have the opportunity to opt into afternoon enrichment programming at no cost.
Families of eligible students will receive a call, text or email through Remind notifying them that the student has been invited to participate in Summer Acceleration Academy. Once enrolled families will receive confirmation and transportation information.
Please contact marysvilleinfo@pps.net with any questions.
Harassing Language
It is sad for me to have to address a concern again over students using hateful language at school. This time the harmful language involved anti-lgbtqia2s+ words. It is very important to me that we always follow our Marysville values of social justice, equity and inclusiveness. We always investigate reported incidents and respond in line with district policies.
However, using a slur related to gender or sexual orientation to joke around is not OK. These are hurtful words and can impact anyone who overhears them.
Hate is not tolerated nor accepted at Marysville and using any derogatory word to tease someone is harassment and is unacceptable..
LGBTQ2SIA+ students, families, staff, and community partners are vital members of the Portland Public Schools community. Our commitment to this community continues to expand as we grow in our understanding of the unique needs and challenges facing the LGBTQ2SIA+ community.
Hate-based speech has the potential to inflict unique damage and harm. If your student would like to speak to a trusted adult about the inappropriate language that may have been overheard feel free to reach out to a member of our counseling team:
Sakura Hamada, shamada@pps.net
Hang Jones, hjones@pps.net
This incident is an affront to our core values of racial equity, social justice, student and staff safety, and inclusion. Everyone has the right to be safe and welcomed at school and any harassment will not be tolerated. I can always be reached at cmurray2@pps.net if you wish to discuss this further.
Our goal is to be a school community that will speak up against all bias. We can do that by interrupting and educating. Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Cathy Murray
Marysville Principal
