Teaching, Leading and Learning Like Pirates
Challenge #16
Challenge #16 will extend through the end of the school year. Remember, we encourage weekly postings from all staff members. This challenge aligns with our wellness initiatives and our core value of being positive even in the face of adversity. We want to team-up together and create an SG digital scrapbook using Padlet as the platform! The scrapbook will be a part of an upcoming staff celebration. Challenge #16 is simply this: each week submit something that you are personally thankful for, something inspirational, an enlightening moment, etc. It can be personal or professional. Whatever it is, it should come from your heart. Pictures, quotes, personal or professional journal snip-its are are all welcome ideas. We are emphasizing something from the heart that is aligned with wellness (promotes well-being or positivity). Please make your weekly submission at https://padlet.com/chadharrison/gp2c2qe9j6j4. Also, please be sure to include your name in your post.

4th Marking Period
Interim Grades: The MP4 interim ended Friday and grades are due May 13th by 3:00 pm.
Updated End of Year Calendar: The attachment below is the revised end-of-year calendar approved by the NCC Vo-Tech Board of Education. The calendar specifies activities and expectations through the last day, including teacher work days, use of snow hours, etc. If you have any questions, please contact your direct supervisor.
Snow Hours Update: The end of the school year calendar has been updated. Two days (June 12th & 15th) are make-up PD "snow hours" eligible, along with and for this year only, make-up PD hours than can be used by teachers for the June 18th trade-off day. Each day is 7.5 hours. Many teachers have already earned all hours needed by working during the initial March optional online learning days. All staff need to complete the Google Form located at https://forms.gle/D7A8p8fe3AKni9bs5 by Monday, May 11th to determine “snow hours” already completed. Please see Christine Schumacher's Schoology posting on Thursday, May 7th for more information or reach out to her directly. Also, if you are still looking for PD hours, Instructional Services will be hosting virtual learning opportunities remotely between May 4th and May 17th. Please visit https://docs.google.com/document/d/1fQrqMkXlxHi5jdwI9WThCicv-YKaAptazgCiXc3SkrI/edit?usp=sharing and sign up for those in which you wish to participate. If you have any questions, please reach out to Carrie Barber, Jack King, or Donna Poore.
Students Not Communicating or Submitting Assignments: In an effort to continually identify students that are not communicating or submitting assignments, please complete the google form at https://forms.gle/2L1ABPyVyza9nuA47. This document will be on-going and continuous while we are operating remotely because we understand there are numerous dynamics impacting students. Feel free to use this form to provide multiple updates on the same student. Redundancy is welcomed! The more real-time information from multiple instructors or even the same instructor, the better. Administration will monitor this list daily for changes and provide staff with a weekly update on students not communicating or submitting assignments.
Prior Week Students of Concern: Please visit Dr. Connor's Saturday Schoology post or visit https://docs.google.com/document/d/1l8qeM946JncfIUE6fxNKIMqn3MQCZBrUUYurSWUlpSE/edit?usp=sharing for an update on students that we are attempting to establish communication due to lack of participation.
Communication from Mrs. Villa: Please review the letter from Terri Villa below that was posted on the District's Sharepoint page pertaining to guidelines after the May 15th new learning window. Please remember the District is not asking teachers to create another set of essential topics/skills for students to learn after May 15th. The District is asking us to use May 18th to the end of the school year to finalize the 3-4 essential learning topics/concepts/skills already addressed. If you have any questions, please reach out to your department chairperson/cluster leader or your immediate supervisor.

Avast Ye Shipmates! This Buccaneer Received a Shout Out!
"Big shout out to the admin team and the administrative assistants for celebrating our wonderful educators during teacher appreciation week. The administrative assistants did a terrific job establishing the theme and organizing the materials and the admin team took time out to deliver the gifts. Team work makes the dream work:) Thank you for always being willing to celebrate and support our team." ~ Shanta Reynolds
“Kudos to Mr. Hanson for stepping back and reflecting on his own instructional practices. During a District PD webinar, he talked about the need to give students multiple opportunities to show what they know and he showed them how to use of a variety of assessment tools. It’s great that we are getting closer to conversations about honoring and respecting our students’ inherent differences. These ideas are not simple and present challenges, but I want to acknowledge him for being honest enough to share his thoughts.” ~Christa Davis
"I want to give a shoutout to Mr. Mike Klinefelter and Mr. James Sekcienski for embracing technology and using it to prepare their junior students for the co-op experience next year. Mr. Klinefelter held Zoom interviews with one of his business partners to interview all interested students. Mr. Sekcienski held a Zoom chat where his seniors talked about their co-op experience and he allowed the juniors to ask questions. Outstanding job gentlemen!" ~Jermaine Williams
Shout out to Mr. Nick Schaefer and Mr. Jermaine Williams for allowing me to work with them this school year on the Chick-fil-A leader academy project. I had a blast getting to know several of our students on a deeper level! Also, thank you for organizing the leader academy remotely to solidify our last good will project which was to celebrate the heroes that impact the lives of our students daily, the SG educators. Please check out the video below.
~Shanta Reynolds
