Vance County High School Newsletter Issue #3, Sept. 15, 2024
Message from the Principal
Hello, Viper Nation!
The school year is in full swing, and we are excited to share some of the wonderful things happening at Vance County High School. From academic achievements to student success, it’s clear that our school community is off to a great start. Here are a few important updates and reminders to keep in mind as we continue our journey through the school year:
Time Recovery for the 1st Six Weeks:
Time recovery has officially begun for the first six weeks. If you need to recover time, please ensure it is completed within this designated time frame. This is crucial to staying on track with your academic progress.Attendance Notes:
If you are absent from school, it’s important to provide a note for Mrs. Gupton so that your attendance can be updated accurately. Consistent attendance is key to your success, and we want to ensure all students are accounted for.Morning Arrival:
I’m impressed with the overall punctuality of our students in the mornings! Please continue to make it a priority to arrive on time each day. Remember, instruction begins promptly at 8:35 a.m., so being on time is essential to starting your day strong.Academic Support:
If your student is struggling to understand the content in any of their classes, please don’t hesitate to reach out to their teachers. We encourage you to address any concerns now rather than later to prevent falling behind. We are here to help and support our students' academic growth.Celebrating Success:
We are incredibly proud to announce that our hard work last year paid off! Our school letter grade improved, a testament to the dedication of our students and staff. Additionally, we saw an impressive 10% increase in our graduation rate. This is a huge accomplishment, and it reflects the commitment and determination of our scholars, staff, and families.
As we continue throughout the year, let’s keep up the momentum and stay focused on our goals. Thank you to everyone for your hard work and commitment to making Vance County High School a place of excellence!
Together, we are stronger. Go Vipers!
Welcome to the Viper Family
Ms. Dominique Anderson- Earth and Environmental Science
I am Dominique Anderson. A 2016 graduate of the former Southern Vance High School.
When I was in highschool, I wanted to graduate and become a doctor. On that path, I attended UNC-Chapel Hill, where I graduated with a degree in English and Comparative Literature. MY favorite memories from that time included working at the botanical gardens, and as an IT professional for the lecture halls.
After graduation, I attended UNC- Greensboro and studied biology, chemistry, and courses on self discovery.
I moved back to Henderson in July of 2030 to start pursuing medical experience. I worked at DaVita Dialysis for almost a year before developing Hyperthyroidism. Since then I decided to take care of my health and help other students find their life goals.
Congratulations
