Congratulations to the Whitney Boys' Basketball Tournament Team
We are so proud of the Whitney boys' basketball tournament team for making it all the way to the district semi-finals! We appreciate their hard work and determination and the excellent coaching from Mr. Morgan and Ms. Franca. Thanks also to everyone who came out to cheer our team on during the tournament.
Wolverine Walkers Needs Volunteers!
Thank you so much to the parents who have volunteered to help at Wolverine Walkers! The Whitney walking club, Wolverine Walkers, happens every Wednesday during lunch recess. Students and staff are invited to walk the Whitney path to earn cool prizes. We could use additional volunteers to scan the walkers' badges as they complete laps. If you can spare thirty minutes (or more) on a Wednesday, please sign-up here. This is an easy and fun way to volunteer at Whitney and see your student at recess.
Spring Photos/Class Photos
Spring individual photos and class photos will be taken on Thursday, April 3rd. Order forms will be sent home on Friday, March 14th, so please watch out for those if you are interested.
Whitney Podcast
On the latest episode of our Whitney Podcast, you'll hear 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders read their own writing. It is exciting to hear the growth from one grade to the next. Some 4th graders share their engineering projects and some "fail-a-brations" (failures that help us learn and grow) as they built their projects. Thanks to Ms. Boan, our multi-language learning teacher, for her work to produce the podcast.
We hope you'll spend a few minutes listening here to this episode of the Whitney podcast or listen here on Spotify.
What's on the Menu?
School breakfast and lunch are free for our students. Please note that students who bring their lunches from home can buy a milk for 80 cents (or they can take a fruit, vegetable, and milk for no charge). More information can be found at the BSD Food & Nutrition Services website.

Birthday Celebrations
We love having our birthday students announced each week and watching them select books from our Birthday Book Cart! Students with March birthdays will receive a treat as they head to lunch on Friday, March 28th.
*We will no longer accept birthday treats or goodie bags for class birthday celebrations. This will help us celebrate every student and ensure we’re following BSD Board policy.
Cell Phone & Smart Watch Policy Reminder
Students are not allowed to use cell phones on school grounds. Students who bring cell phones to school need to keep them silent and in their backpacks throughout the day. Students who walk to school and need to let parents know when they have arrived at school can do so as they enter the school grounds before they go to the playground, and then the phones should not be seen or heard again.
Students who are observed using smart watches to text, make calls, or for anything except checking the time, will be asked to also keep their watches in their backpacks where they should not be seen or heard while at school. Students who are using these devices during the school day may be asked to turn smart watches or cell phones into their teacher or the office until the end of the day.
We appreciate your help as we strive to provide a space where students are focused on learning during their school day, without the distractions and mental health challenges that can be associated with devices in schools.
Lunch Club
Our Community School Coordinator, Mrs. Anderson, offers a variety of activities as an alternative to going outside during our Lunch Club. On days when Lunch Club is offered, students in first through sixth grades can spend half of their lunch recess in the Community School's room engaged in an activity and then head outside for some fresh air. Last month, students played with Legos and board games, and they also made valentine hearts for senior citizens. Fourth through sixth graders on our Battle of the Books teams also practice weekly during Lunch Club.

Don’t miss this incredible opportunity to be inspired and motivated! Join us at South Junior High on March 4th from 6-7pm for an unforgettable talk from Brad Montague, the producer of Kid President and a New York Times bestselling author. His message is not only impactful, but also entertaining and full of humor, making it a must-see event for all parents.
Whether you're a parent, guardian, or community member, Brad's insights will leave you feeling empowered and ready to make a positive difference in the lives of the young people around you.
