Ryan's Weekly Family Update
4.29.24
Message from the Principal
Dear Ryan Elementary Community,
Wow, this community does an amazing job wearing their helmets and biking to school. Check out some photos below from the Bike to School Day event last week. Rocky, the Rhino, loved giving out high fives. Rocky would love to visit Ryan more often. If you would like to volunteer to help out with our mascot’s appearances, please contact the office.
We are also in need of a parent/guardian representative from Ryan Elementary to serve on BVSD’s District Accountability Committee. The District Accountability Committee (DAC) is a legally constituted committee of representatives from the Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) whose purpose is to engage in meaningful consultation in accountability and improvement planning.
As per Colorado Revised Statutes 22-11-302, DAC duties include making recommendations regarding district improvement planning and spending priorities, studying topics as jointly determined with the school board, and increasing parent engagement in the district and at schools. The responsibilities of DAC members are described in the DAC bylaws, available at bvsd.org/dac.
Meetings are open to the public.
Meetings are held on the 1st Tuesday of the month from 6:15-8:30 pm unless otherwise noted.
No meetings are held during the months of June and July.
Meeting location: Aspen and Black Diamond rooms at the BVSD Education Center, 6500 E. Arapahoe Road, Boulder, CO 80303.
If you are interested in serving in this role for our school, please let me know.
Last Friday, Ryan’s Gaga Ball Pit was installed on our intermediate playground. This was purchased by our PTA, Parent Teacher Association, and will add tons of joy to recess. We are in the process of establishing guidelines and expectations for this fun addition to our school. For now, it’s off limits, until we can get this created and shared with students. Everything you need to know about Gaga Ball provides some information. Thank you for your patience.
It’s always a great day to be a Rhino! Go Rhinos!
Sincerely,
Stephanie Jackman

STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK, MAY 6-10
Let's celebrate our amazing Ryan Staff! Here is how you can be involved!
SUNDAY, 5/5: Chalk stations will be set up around the outside of Ryan for families to pop by and leave messages and/or pictures of appreciation for staff, on the sidewalks around the school. Come anytime!
MONDAY 5/6: Coffee cart delivery volunteers needed. PTA is providing a coffee cart for staff Monday Morning. We are going to give the staff a little extra fuel for this last month of school. If you are available to deliver coffees to staff in their classrooms please check out this link.
There will be other "treats" shared with staff throughout the week, ensuring they feel our love! Just sharing a smile as you cross paths spreads joy - so let's flood the school with simple kindness throughout this week and remind our children to do the same.

PTA Update
End of Year BBQ - May 23
The PTA will be hosting a BBQ at Whitetail Park (2550 Autumn Ridge Blvd., Lafayette) to celebrate the end of the year on the last day of school, Thursday, May 23, 4–7pm! We will provide hotdogs and hamburgers (including vegetarian options), and we ask families to bring a side to share and drinks for your family. Bring blankets to sit on and lawn games if you'd like! Come enjoy this free fun family event and celebrate everything that our kids have accomplished this year!
Join the PTA Board!
The PTA is looking for two awesome people to join our board next school year! We have openings for a Co-President and a Secretary; both are two-year terms, and you'll be joining our current Co-President and Treasurer. Each year, the PTA supports school activities and programs not currently funded by the BVSD budget, such as funding field trips, supplementing after-school activities, and providing essential supplies and support for classroom instruction. We plan two major fundraising events each school year, and we also help support fun activities at the school like the Fall Festival, STEAM Nights, and more! If you're interested in learning more, please reach out to leadership@ryanelementarypta.org. If you have specific questions about the Secretary position, you can also contact communications@ryanelementarypta.org. Joining the PTA board is a great way to stay connected to the school and its current events!
Volunteers & Background Checks Reminder
INFORMATION
Volunteers and field trip chaperones should be under line-of-sight supervision by BVSD staff at all times. Line-of-sight can be through a transparent wall or door. For volunteers, partners, or field trip chaperones who will not be under line-of-sight supervision by BVSD staff at all times – CBI fingerprint check required through a third party vendor, paid by the volunteer/partner/school AND volunteer must sign a BVSD volunteer agreement (Spanish).
Please see the Volunteer/Visitor FAQ and the Volunteers/Visitors Flowchart for additional details.
Message from Ms. Chrystal in the Health Room
Healthy students are better learners, please keep your child home if they feel ill, CDPHE’s Illness Policy for Students and Staff in School and Child Care: Policy
Please remember to send your child a change of clothes, especially in our younger elementary grades but it would be great if every kiddo had a full set of spare clothes in their backpack including socks and underwear. We have all sorts of accidents and often kiddos prefer clothes of their own and don't forget gloves and hats too.
Attendance Announcement
If your child has an appointment during school hours, please ask the medical office for a school excuse note and bring it to the Ryan office.
To report your child's absences, please enter it through your Parent Portal or call the Attendance Line 720.561.7002 and remember to include the REASON FOR THE ABSENCE!
We understand sometimes our students need to be out for an extended period of time. We ask, if you know your child will be out for more than 3 days, to please fill out this form in addition to reporting the absence through the portal or attendance line.
Good habits start early! Research shows regular attendance at school has a DRAMATIC impact on student progress. Please see the How Sick Is To Sick guidelines as well as the BVSD attendance policy.
Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteering is a fun, simple way to get involved within the Ryan community. We have all sorts of opportunities to get involved. Whether you volunteer regularly in your teacher’s classroom or bring treats and coffee to teachers for late start or volunteer for the upcoming book fair, the impact can be huge. Not only does it benefit the school but it benefits your kids and families in our community as well! Please take a moment to explore this link: https://www.bvsd.org/parents-students/get-involved/volunteers you may need the Raptor check or CBI Background fingerprint check. These are both good for 12 months.

We appreciate your help! Thanks!
BVSD's School Messenger support and notifications
Boulder Valley School District recently tested their emergency alert system.
The test alert included a phone call, text message and email to those opted in to receive BVSD Communications.
Users can adjust their communication preferences as desired via these instructions.
If you did not receive a text message, and would like to opt-in to receive text messages from the district and schools through SchoolMessenger, opting-in is a two-step process:
- The person's cell phone number must be in a cell phone field in Infinite Campus (students/parents) or Infor/Lawson (employees).
- They then send a text message from their cell phone to “67587” with the word “yes” in the message. They may opt-out at any time by texting “STOP” to 67587.
