Superintendent Community Update
Superintendent's Message
Dear JUHSD Community,
I want to take a moment to thank each and every one of you for your commitment to civic engagement through your participation in this election. Voting is a vital expression of our democratic values, and your involvement reflects the spirit of citizenship that we aim to foster in our schools and community.
As we process the results, it is natural for a range of emotions to surface, reflecting the diverse perspectives within our district. Regardless of where each of us may personally stand, let us remember the importance of respecting one another. In a community as varied and vibrant as ours, it is crucial that we continue to build bridges of understanding and compassion.
I am also extremely grateful and thrilled to share that Measure Z has passed with nearly 75% approval! This new parcel tax, which will go into effect on July 1, 2025, replaces the current $60 per parcel tax with a $95 per parcel tax. The current tax generates about $2.1 million annually, and with this increase, we will see a rise to approximately $3.3 million per year—an additional $1.2 million to support our schools and community. With the approval of Measure Z, we can enhance our classrooms, expand resources, and build a brighter future for everyone. It's with heartfelt gratitude that I acknowledge your commitment to supporting education.
Thank you for your continued support and for standing with us in our mission to provide a quality, equitable education for all. Our commitment to social justice remains strong, and we are dedicated to fostering a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment where every student, family, and staff member feels valued. Together, let’s keep working to create a future that inspires and uplifts every member of our district.
With appreciation,
Toni Presta
