Our new schedule this year makes attendance crucial for students' academic success, and it's extremely important they attend bell to bell. We are seeing a number of students in the building, but not attending their whole classes. We want to remind you that we have multiple codes for attendance:
Arriving to class marked VL (very late)
Leaving early without permission, or asking to leave early for another reason
Missing class entirely
As you look at your student’s attendance in ParentView please ask your student about any attendance codes that may be coming up. If you need help signing up for ParentVue please do not hesitate to call Sheldon High School and we can help set that up for you.

Spring Musical
Hadestown is a Tony Award-winning musical that retells the ancient Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, blending it with the myth of Hades and Persephone in a jazz- and folk-infused setting.
In the story, Orpheus, a gifted musician, falls in love with Eurydice, a strong, independent, but weary young woman shaped by a harsh, poverty-stricken world. Eurydice is lured to the industrial underworld of Hadestown, ruled by Hades, who offers her security in exchange for her freedom. Orpheus travels to Hadestown to rescue her, using his music to melt even Hades' heart. Hades agrees to let them go—but only if Orpheus walks out without looking back to see if Eurydice is following.
The musical explores themes of love, trust, power, and hope, framed as a story we tell again and again: "a sad song, but we sing it anyway."

After School Tutoring
After School Tutoring Program started Tuesday, September 24th. We will be meeting after school from 3:45-4:45 every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday we are in school. We will have teachers to help with all the core subjects. All students are welcome as long as they are on task.
Expectations: While you are at the After School Tutoring Program you are expected to be working on a class or classes that you are struggling in. Teachers and tutors are there to help answer any questions and give instruction when needed.
Meals: - All Sheldon students have access to a free sack lunch at the end of the school day in the cafeteria. It is considered a full meal but it is made of things like beef sticks, dips, cheese, chips, crackers, and dried fruit.
Scholarship Announcement
Scholarship Opportunity for Students in the KRVM Broadcast Program
The family of the late AJ (Adam) Gutierrez has created a $3000 scholarship in his name to honor all his volunteer work within the community, including on-the-air at KRVM.
This opportunity is offered to Graduating Sheldon Class of 2025 students who have taken the KRVM Broadcasting Class at any point in their high school career, with the goal of supporting students within our community who are applying for their first year in college.
Adam was no stranger to obstacles. He faced them willingly and vowed to be an example to others. This scholarship is offered in the hopes of helping the recipients get a solid start on their journey, and up to three students will share the funds.
Eligible Seniors can find details and the scholarship application at the Sheldon Career Center, KRVM.org, or pick up a printed copy at the KRVM studios during business hours. Deadline for applications to be received is 5PM on Friday, May 30, 2025.
Counseling Center
Once again we will be offering current high school sophomores and juniors the opportunity to be a summer teaching intern with the SEAL (Summer Enrichment and Academic Learning) Program. We are looking for high school students who are interested in working with students in Grades 1-5 for the summer (July 7- August 7). Students will be encouraged to attend our training and collaboration time July 1-2 as well.
A couple of selling points:
1) This year we are able to offer 5 paid internships as work study. We will use an interview process to determine who will fill the paid positions if we have more applicants than positions.
2) Students who intern and meet class expectations will receive 1.0 OS credit titled "Summer Teaching Intern" whether or not the position is paid.
3) Students can count the experience as their extended application/Senior Project with the completion of a reflection.
In addition, this year we are adding an office work study position for our program this summer. See attached document.
I have attached the description details and the application is linked within the document. Students will need two teachers to list as references and a resume to complete the application.
Please let me know if you have questions. The deadline is May 16 to apply but if we are in need of more applicants we may reopen the application.
Thank you.

4J Student Cards for Eugene Public Library
All Eugene School District 4J students receive their own Eugene Public Library (EPL) card as part of a partnership with Eugene Public Library! Library cards were delivered to all 4J students last year and will be automatically renewed yearly until they graduate or leave the district.
New library cards are being offered to all new students and kindergarteners this year. If your student does not receive a card once your home school has delivered library cards, please contact or visit Eugene Public Library.
Below is information regarding EPL student cards.
Student cards:
Provide immediate access to Eugene Public Library's online resources and the ability to borrow five physical items at a time.
Online resources include ebooks, audiobooks, research information, live homework help by professional tutors, streaming movies including documentaries and instructional videos, music, and more.
Physical items include books, magazines, DVDs, CDs, art and technology tools, games, educational toys, puppets and more.
Will be distributed by each school's library or administration office.
Are free of charge, including for students who live outside the City of Eugene.
Can be upgraded to a standard library card with higher borrowing limits at no charge.
Are automatically issued to all K-12 students enrolled at 4J neighborhood and alternative schools unless they or their parents choose not to participate. Charter schools are not included.
Are automatically renewed each school year for continuing 4J students. New cards will be issued to students joining the district (kindergarteners and new students).
The initial account password is the student’s 4J ID number. We encourage patrons to change their password upon first logging into their account and record it in a safe place. Teachers, 4J librarians, and school secretaries can assist with ID numbers as needed. Please note that Eugene Public Librarians cannot access 4J student ID numbers.
4J students who already have a standard Eugene Public Library card may choose to keep and use both cards or cancel one of their cards.
