Here Comes the Bus Sub Information
We would like to explain how Here Comes the Bus works in the event of a sub bus because we have been getting a lot of questions.
When a sub bus is used, families signed-up with HCTB will receive an email notification letting you know which bus will be transporting your child(ren).
When a sub bus is used, you will not be able to see the bus on the HCTB map.
However, you will receive a notification when the bus enters the radius that you have previously set up in the app. This will let you know that the bus is approaching your stop.
Families can expand the radius to allow more time between the notification and the bus arrival.
We encourage all families to sign-up for the HCTB app. Our school code is 29081. If you need your child's student ID number, please email julie_martine@pender.k12.nc.us.
EOG Volunteers
It is time to request volunteer testing proctors and hall/bathroom monitors for the End of Grade (EOG) assessments at Topsail Annandale Elementary School on May 9th and 13th. There will be a brief training provided in advance for proctors and bathroom/hallway monitors. Proctors only must have completed background checks via this LINK. Please complete the following form if you are available and willing to help us out May 9th & 13th. Click HERE for the form or see link below.

Thank you!
Month of the Military Child
Every year our military kids club does purple starts for all of our military students to be celebrated in the front of the school. If you would like to have a start for your child the must be registered in OMKC. ALL MILITARY KIDS register for the club in their school through our website: https://operationmilitarykidsclubs.com/. There is no cost to register, and no commitment to ever come to a club. It does not commit you to anything. This just allows us to have a way to know your child is a military child and we don't want any to be left out. Military Kids registered by March 1st, will have a star with their name on it.
Nurse Updates
Flu season is upon us and I wanted to give you a few reminders to help prevent continuous passing of illnesses in the classrooms. Pender County does encourage students to be present in school, but not at the expense of the students health or the health of others in the classroom.
Please, if your student has a fever of 100.4 or greater they need to stay home until fever free without medication for 24 hours. If you have a note from a MD, they need to stay at home until the release date set by the physician. In addition, we recommend staying home for 24 hours after vomiting and/or diarrhea.
We are doing our best to keep the classrooms clean, by scrubbing down all the things. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask Nurse Vicki.
STEM
As you know, we added an additional specials class this year, STEM. Students are absolutely loving it. Our PTA major fundraising project this year is to furnish and get equipment for the room. We have lots of the new furniture installed, and we are waiting on a few pieces to finish up the installation.
We are looking to get some support for the consumables used for all the experiments and projects worked on in class. Here is our STEM teacher's wish list for those who would like to support the program:

Bus Riders
As we enter the new year we wanted to highlight some important reminders of our BUS RIDER EXPECTATIONS. Please review and talk to your bus rider about following the rules and how they can make good choices.
Reminder:
-K-2nd grade riders MUST have a responsible adult at the bus stop or get off with an older sibling in order for the student to exit the bus.
-You must be at your stop 10 minutes PRIOR to the bus arrival.
-Have your child stand back from the road until the bus makes a complete stop. At no point should a child run towards a moving bus.
-Your child MUST remain seated, facing forward, and be respectful for the duration of the bus ride.
For your convenience you can download Here Comes the Bus on your smartphone, tablet, or computer to view the real-time location of your child's school bus.
Visit http://www.herecomesthebus.com for more information.
Thank you for your cooperation! Safety is our number one priority when transporting your child to and from school.
Car Rider Line
Transportation Changes
If your student has a change in transportation that is different then then normal, please take the following steps:
- Send in writing (handwritten note, email, rooms message) to your child's teaching
- If you do not get a response by 12 pm the day the change is needed, please call the front office. We will still ask you to send it in writing, but we will be sure the teacher gets the information
- No student can ride a bus other then the bus they are assigned to
- No student can ride a bus with a friend unless they are assigned to that bus
Attendance
In order to streamline attendance, this year we will be receiving attendance excuse notes electronically, not paper copies.
All excuse notes should be sent to tae_attendance@pender.k12.nc.us
This includes doctors notes, parent notes, etc. This allows us to make sure all excuse notes get to where they need to be. It also allows families to have documentation that they sent in their notes instead of things getting lost.
It is still best practice to communicate with the teacher in the event of the absence to ensure students have all necessary make up work, but you do not need to give the teacher the excuse note.
Please review Board Policy 4400 for the full attendance policy and to ensure you are up to date on what constitutes and excused absence. It can be found here:
