December Wrangler Round Up!
George Welch Parent Newsletter
Message from Ms. Wood, Principal
December is here! As we begin to wrap up the 2024 and look toward our spring semester and state testing, I want to take a moment to brag on our students, teachers, and staff! For the first time in 6 years, we earned a School Performance Score of 91.1, which is an "A" School rating! CUE THE CHEERS! We were also recognized as a Top Gains School once again because our students' growth from year to year is over 90%! We are so proud of the progressive growth our students demonstrate year after year! Our dedicated teachers and paras work tirelessly to learn new research-based strategies and plan effective instruction that motivates our students and meets their individual needs; this is not an easy job but they do it because they believe in your children! Thank you to these amazing people who love your children and want them to be successful! Thank you for getting your kiddos to school everyday on time so no Instructional minutes are missed! Thank you for making sure they study, practice, and read! Thank you for taking the extra time to practice math facts or learn about the new ways we teach! Thank you for your support and always showing up! We are so blessed at George Welch!
The Christmas season is here! We have some dress up days and events planned to celebrate the season! Click here for details and dates! We also have a school-wide field trip planned for Friday, December 6 to the Twin City Ballet's Performance of "Scrooge." For a permission form, click here! The $6 payment for entry must be paid onlilne. Thank you to The Gardens of Georgia Tucker for sponsoring the cost of the buses and the drivers!
Each year we celebrate Christmas with a big Extravaganza, where students rotate to different stations - science, art, games, music and stories, social studies, snacks, and other activities. This year's theme is Louisiana Christmas Day! Students are encouraged to dress up!
We are bringing back Christmas parties this year on Thursday, December 19! Grades K-2 will party at 12:00 and grades 3-5 will party at 1:00 PM. Due to safety and fire codes, we are limited to two (2) guests per student (parents or legal guardians). No students, including those from any other K-12 schools, will NOT be allowed to attend. Since spacing is limited and party planning is for our students, little ones (walkers through pre-K may not attend); strollers are not allowed. If there are too many guests or and children who are not allowed, we will ask you to leave, so please plan accordingly.
Also, students may be checked out following the party with no penalty. Students are also not required to attend on Friday, December 20, which is a half day with an 11:30AM dismissal, if they have completed all assignments and assessments. The teacher will contact you if your child must attend. As always, we will be here and open for business on that day!
Students will be out of school for the Christmas break beginning at 11:30AM on Friday, December 20 though Friday, January 3. Classes resume on Monday, January 6. We hope you have a wonderful holiday season filled with joy and memorable time with family and friends!

Energy Bus Stop!
This month we are focusing on Rule #2 Fuel Your Ride With Positive Energy! Students are learning that life isn't always lemonade and how to combat those lemons! We are focusing on what worked today or what was a highlight of the day. Students share their successes with their friends and identify what makes them happy when times are rough and tough! Parents, this is a great way to engage your child, especially following a tough loss, a bad choice, or disappointment. Maybe everyone needs to take a quick loop around the neighborhood for fresh air, or maybe a family popcorn and movie night will turn the grumps away! Ask your child, "What was one win or highlight today?" Model it for them - you are their first teachers!
