Scottsville's Tuesday Tiger Times
September 17, 2024
See you TOMORROW at Back-to-School Night!
Come hear about our school's plans for the year AND hear from your child's teacher about how we can be the best learning partners for our children!
Principal Wells and Assistant Principal Ellegood will be sharing highlights of our "State of the School" presentation. The full presentation will be published next week.
We are PREPARED - A Review of Preparedness Week
Students really enjoyed having several first responders come to sit with them during lunch! We want to thank all the first responders who were able to make it. Students enjoyed our first responder's spirit day to cap off our preparedness week. Preparedness Week was full of games and activities to help our students understand the importance of being prepared in any emergency. If you have any questions, please reach out to Mr. Ellegood at SES.
Our Reading Night Was a SUCCESS!
Thanks to all families who attended
We were thrilled to see so many families at our first "Dinner and Dessert" - Workshop/PTO Event! Our Reading Team: Ms. Passerell, Ms. Allen, and Ms. Obrecht, planned a fun and informative event. Click here to see the presentation.
For those who were unable to join us, we wanted to share the handouts:

Fab Lab Needs Recyclables!
Our Fab Lab is buzzing with creativity, and we need your help! We’re collecting clean recyclables like cardboard, plastic containers, paper towel and toilet paper rolls, bottle caps, and more to fuel our students’ imaginations. These items will be used for hands-on projects that inspire design, problem-solving, and innovation. If you have any clean recyclables at home, please send them in with your child.
Thank you for supporting our budding inventors! ~ Ms. Emery, TDRT
This is such an important message, we are including again:
Scottsville Tigers who arrive at school when doors open at 7:45am are able to calmly settle in, greet their teachers and friends, unpack their backpacks, and focus their minds on being a good learner.
- Scottsville Tigers who arrive after 7:55am miss out on this natural transition period, and chronic tardiness may cause students to miss out on morning announcements, social interactions with friends, have difficulty focusing on academics, and many fun activities.
- Showing up on time to school every day can help Tigers develop the habit of being punctual, demonstrates to them your commitment to their learning and friendships, and helps reduce classroom interruptions and distractions for all students.
- Missing just 15 minutes of school twice a week equates to three (3!) missed school days per year!
If you would like tips on smoothing out your family's morning routine, please reach out to Mr. Gamble or Ms. Renee. They are happy to help!
Upcoming Student Surveys
As you are likely aware, building our social-emotional learning skills is an essential goal for all schools across ACPS -- including our school. During the months of October and November, students and teachers will participate in several exercises to better understand these concepts and to reflect on how they perceive these skills in themselves.
We will be asking for children to reflect on their own mindsets and approaches to learning through the administration of the Panorama School Climate Survey, the DESSA Universal SEL Screener, and our Anti-Bullying Peer Nomination Survey.
The Panorama School climate survey will ask students in grades three through five to self-reflect on their sense of belonging, school safety, the value of school, rigorous expectations, school climate, and cultural awareness.
The DESSA survey will ask teachers to answer questions about student strengths in the following (CASEL aligned) social emotional categories; self-awareness, social awareness, self-management, goal directed behavior, relationship skills, personal responsibility, decision making, and optimistic thinking.
Lastly, the Anti-Bullying Peer Nominations Survey gives students a chance to anonymously nominate peers who they feel might have been bullied and speak out to address things they are seeing within the school that concern them.
We are asking that all of our students participate in the surveys, as their responses will provide invaluable insights into their experiences and how we can improve and adapt to meet their needs. If a student doesn’t feel like they have enough information to answer a question, they will be able to skip the item altogether. If you have any questions please contact Tucker Gamble, our school counselor, or administrators Ms. Wells or Mr. Ellegood.
We thank you for your support as our learning partners!
