College and Career Awareness Month
October marks College and Career Awareness Month and Haslett Public Schools is proud to collaborate with the Michigan College Access Network (MCAN) to help achieve Michigan's goal of having 60% of residents earn a postsecondary certificate or degree by 2030. This month, we provided students with numerous opportunities to engage in college and career exploration activities. Currently, 96% of graduates from Haslett High School continue their education at the college level. Below is an overview of the opportunities that were provided.
Haslett Elementary Schools - Murphy, Ralya, and Wilkshire
Elementary students had grade appropriate conversations about college or careers in their classroom.
Students were encouraged to wear their favorite college/career/military branch shirt on October 22.
Haslett Middle School
In Viking Time, students engaged in a variety of activities related to college and career exploration through the use of Xello and group conversations.
Students were encouraged to wear their favorite college/career/military branch shirt on October 22.
Haslett High School
Students have had several opportunities to broaden their knowledge about colleges and careers. Events included:
Grades 9-12 had discussions throughout the month on topics related to post-secondary options.
Grade 10 - students met with representatives from the Wilson Talent Center on October 25 to learn more about technical training programs.
Grade 11 - students participated in the PSAT/NMSQT on October 16.

Received extra help with their college essays and applications through their English classes.
Had the opportunity to meet with…
Representatives from the Armed Forces, Skilled Trades, and eighteen different colleges during the month of October. On-site admissions sessions with Oakland University, Lansing Community College, and Northern Michigan University were also held.
Were encouraged to complete at least one college or career application in October. Several colleges partnered with MCAN and waived their college application fees throughout the month.
Had the opportunity to complete a banner indicating which college/military branch/skilled trade/career they applied to this month.
Staff and students were encouraged to wear their favorite college/career/military branch shirt on October 22.
During the month of October…
277 college applications were submitted to 127 different colleges
158 seniors met with a college representative
17 seniors met with a representative from the skilled trades
5 seniors met with a representative from the armed forces
