From the Office
The 5th grade students and staff had a wonderful time at Outdoor Ed the past two days! It was a little on the warm side, but the students did a great job. Students had the opportunity to explore nature, go canoeing, try archery, go ziplining, and many more fun activities. This is always a special experience for our students and staff. We are thankful for the support of our district and community in making this experience possible.
Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held on September 24th and 25th. If you have not signed up for a conference time, please do so right away. If you need any help, you can contact the main office at 402-289-2559. Conferences start at 3:00 until 6:30 PM. Please remember that we dismiss an hour early on both Tuesday and Wednesday due to the start time of conferences.
There will be no school on September 26th or 27th. I hope that your family will enjoy the extra long weekend!
On Wednesday, September 25th, we will have our Westridge Walk-a-thon Kick-off. The Walk-a-thon is a main fundraiser for the year. Students can raise money for the school, and as they raise money, they can earn different prizes. We will have the actual Walk-a-thon for students on October 11th. This event is done during the school day, and all students get to participate in the event. More information will be coming home next week.
Finally, please take a few minutes and check out the information about the student directory below. The student directory is a way for families to connect with each other for fun events, such as birthday parties. Many times families want to send invitations for birthday parties out to the entire class, and they will contact the school to get contact information or for us to hand out invitations at school. Unfortunately, we can not share contact information nor do we allow students to pass out invitations out at school. The student directory is there to help families reach out to each other. You can choose to provide as much or as little of information as you want, but having your child's name and contact information in the directory allows others to invite them to fun events outside of the school setting.
Thank you,

Attendance Matters!
As a school community, we know that instructional time is of great importance, and nearly impossible to replicate outside of the classroom. In general, we see a dip in achievement from students who miss class time. Research shows that attending school regularly has a direct correlation to higher achievement. All instances of chronic absenteeism will be communicated to families and we will work with you to improve attendance rates. A chronically absent student is defined as any student absent for 10% or more of the days they were enrolled. EPS has 180 student contact days; therefore, any student who misses more than 18 days in the school year is considered chronically absent unless there are chronic health problems or special circumstances. We want our students in attendance, but not if they have a fever or if they are sick with an illness.
In the best interest of students' educational achievement, please plan vacations and family trips around the school calendar whenever possible. Just a quick reminder that the District Calendar for the 2024- 2025 school year is already available for those who plan vacations in advance. You can find the updated version on the district website at elkhornweb.org and click on Calendar at the top right of your screen.
