- This is a reminder that students on Tracks 1, 3, and 4 have school on November 25th and 26th. There will be no school the remainder of the week in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Track 1: OPM: Identifying the good in others; Tracks 3 & 4: Social Intelligence
Dear Families,
This week, Track 1 will focus on the Other People Mindset of Gratitude. Gratitude means being aware of and grateful for good things that happen.
Gratitude is about feeling and showing thankfulness. It helps us see the good in others and in the world. People with gratitude are ready to appreciate and return kindness. Expert Robert Emmons says gratitude strengthens relationships because it makes us recognize how others support us.
Out of all 24 character strengths, gratitude is the single best predictor of individual well-being. It is linked to more energy, empathy, happiness, and optimism. The good news is that gratitude can be practiced and strengthened like a muscle. The more we practice it, the more benefits we get.
To practice and encourage this strength at home, please visit The Positivity Project’s mobile-friendly P2 for Families (available in English and Spanish), where you will watch a video together and discuss a quote and three questions. Grades 6–8
This week, Tracks 3 and 4 will focus on the character strength of Leadership. Leadership means valuing each person in your group and encouraging everyone to do their best.
Leadership can be formal, like being a team captain, or informal, like helping others work together. It’s about getting things done while keeping the group’s spirit strong. Leadership isn’t just about telling people what to do — it’s about listening, understanding others, solving problems, and inspiring everyone to work toward a common goal.
As students learn more about leadership, they will see how working together with others can help them achieve more. Being a good leader helps build confidence and a strong sense of self.

BAC Meeting 11/18/2024
On Monday, November 18, 2024, we had another great meeting with BAC district 8. We learned about safe ways for students to walk and bike to school. May 7th, will be ride your bike to school day for the students. We also heard from Wake Ed Partnership. (this program supports partner read) Mr. Keith did a great job presenting. He shared with us some great data about Wake County's budget. Did you know 80% of NC students attend public schools? Here is how our funding is broken down. 10% comes from Fed, 67% from State and 23% from local money. They discussed how this money is spent. It was an eye opener to see what and how the money is spent. They are currently working on next school year's budget. They will have to get creative depending on changes that might occur starting 2025.
