9X3 were asked to write the opening to a dystopian story, inspired by some of the different dystopian extracts we have read this term. Iris's vocabulary is particularly impressive and sentence structures are stunning. Well done Iris!

National Healthy Eating Week runs from Monday 10th to Friday 14th June. The British Nutrition Foundation are encouraging everyone to #GiveitaGo by trying just one extra portion of fruit and vegetables, being a little bit more active or trying a new recipe. Visit nutrition.org.uk for more resources.
In Year 8 we will be looking at Healthy Eating and The Eatwell guide in lessons, but we would love to hear about your own activities completed at home. Please send any photos to rhall@chelmer.essex.sch.uk.

FAME Jr Rehearsal Schedule for Week Commencing 10th June
Please make sure your child is aware of when they are needed for rehearsals as there is currently a large number of students not turning up when they should, which makes it very difficult to set and go over scenes and numbers.
Thank you.
Notice for Cast Members
Please make sure your child brings in all their costume items by Wednesday 19th June as this is when we will be checking what we have and what is still needed. If costumes are brought in before this, please put them in a named bag and hand it in to a member of staff in the Eastman Office.

What's Been Happening This Week in Tutor Time?
This week in tutor time our students in Years 7– 10 have continued to look at the 5 Ways to Wellbeing related to the elements of give and connect.
Year 7 – The difference between being nice and being kind
Year 8 – Pushing yourself to the limit for others
Year 9 – What unities us is greater than what divides us
Year 10 – Why is it important that we don’t always agree?
Please click here for a link to the school website where these presentations can be viewed.
The assemblies this week have been welcoming the students back into school after the half term break and reinforcing expectations.
Careers
Year 8 Skills Festival - 27th June
Our Annual Year 8 Skills Festival is on Thursday 27th June at Writtle University College. Our students will get to experience hands-on careers activities in a festival style setting from over 70 businesses. A letter was sent out earlier in the week with lots more details and the Google Form will need to be completed as soon as possible. The cost of the trip has very kindly been paid for by Chelmsford City Council. Please also complete their form regarding photographs and videos.
Year 10 Work Experience - Newsletter
We are currently working on a special newsletter on work experience. If you have any photographs or stories of your children's experience on their placement please do pass them on to ashea@chelmer.essex.sch.uk
Year 12 Work Experience
Well done to the Year 12 students who have already found work placements. This week we have emailed some tips and tricks of finding work experience to all Year 12 students. If the students need further help then they are welcome to visit the Careers Suite in the Library.
Year 10 - Post-16 Workshops
We are continuing with our Post-16 workshops with all Year 10 students. The students are able to look at all options available to them as they progress into Year 11 and beyond. Directions careers advisors are carrying out these workshops and are able to give independent advice to all students in small group settings. The workshops will continue until the end of the academic year.
Water Bottles
With the weather warming up, please ensure your child has a refillable water bottle. There are water fountains around the school in which students can refill their bottles during break, lunch and in between lessons. Students should not be leaving lessons to fill up their water bottles.
Student Drop In
Tracey Byrne, our student mentor, is holding drop ins for any student who would like a chat about anything that may be worrying them.
She will be in O12 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (from 8.15am until 8.30am) and again at lunchtime from around 12.30pm.
Price & Buckland - Uniform Suppliers
PE Kit Notice
Please can we just remind all parents and students of the school PE kit uniform expectations. As of late we have noticed an increase in BLACK leggings/shorts/tracksuit bottoms being worn for PE, and these are not part of the school PE kit. These items of uniform are only allowed in plain NAVY, all which can be found at the official school uniform supplier site https://price-buckland.co.uk/ or from other sporting retailers.
From September please can you ensure your child has the correct PE kit in the correct colours. Failure to do so will see the school's uniform expectations policy being followed and consequences put in place.
Thank you for your support in this matter.
Pre-Loved Uniform Shop
We are looking for any good quality second hand uniform for our pre-loved uniform shop. If you have any items you are willing to donate, please send them into the main school office.
To assist parents when buying new uniform items, we have sample sizes of all the uniform items that are sold online with our uniform suppliers, Price & Buckland. If you would like to try some uniform sizes with your child, please arrange an appointment with the main office.
Pre-Loved PE Kits
If you have any good quality school PE kit that you no longer need, please donate it to the PE department. All kit welcome. Please bring to the PE office.
Thank you.
Year 11 GCSE Drama Reminder
Parents & carers, please remind your child to return any Drama resources they still have (scripts, handouts, etc) to the Eastman foyer. They can be put in the named box by the entrance.
Book Amnesty
Please can all English texts that have been borrowed by Year 11 students be returned to the English office.
Thank you.
PE Extra Curricular Clubs - Summer Term
PE Fixtures - w/c Monday 10th June
Please Note:
- Fixtures are subject to change.
- Students must check the team sheets on the notice boards in PE to check team and confirm timings.
Unfortunately we are no longer able to have parents come into school to watch their children in sporting fixtures. We appreciate this is very disappointing for both students and parents, however, we must adhere to the stringent safeguarding guidance given to us. We apologise for any inconvenience.
