Camp iREAD: Designing Your Summer Adventure at the Library

Library staff responsible for planning and facilitating summer reading programming are invited to our very own “Camp iREAD” in preparation for SRP 2022. We’ll cover program planning nuts and bolts, partnership/outreach opportunities, and thematic resources. State Data Coordinator Kelly Metzger will demonstrate how to log into LibPAS to access and compare your 2020 and 2021 SRP data.Time will be reserved for group discussion and idea sharing.

Adult Programming Favorites and Flops

Planning library programs for adults is an exciting but often unpredictable business! Join fellow adult services librarians for our annual sharing session to discuss your greatest hits and discuss what magic ingredients seem to go into your favorite, best-attended and most well-received programs. Acknowledging that we can learn as much from our failures as our successes, you are also encouraged to share a programming "flop" with the group so that we can use the collective wisdom of the group to imagine how that program might be reworked into a hit!

Cultural Proficiencies for Racial Equity: A Framework

The joint ALA/ARL task force seeks feedback from the library community on their initial draft of the Building Cultural Proficiencies for Racial Equity Framework. Library workers can submit feedback on the CommentPress site until the comment period deadline on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at 5:00 p.m. Central.

INFORMATIONAL SESSION

Public library workers are invited to learn more about this project in a virtual informational session on February 23, 2022, 2:00–3:00 p.m. Central. This session is free but registration is required.

Rhode Island Library Association Accepting Proposals

Save the Date! The Rhode Island Library Association 2022 Annual Conference will be held on May 25 - 26, 2022, at Bryant University in Smithfield, RI. The youth & school library track will be on Thursday, May 26, 2022.


The Call for Proposals is now open and accepting your submissions. The committee strives to create a vibrant conference that will leave attendees invigorated and inspired. As part of this year's theme Restore Reconnect Reflect, we are looking for proposals that address core library services and highlight our fundamental library values including information access, intellectual freedom and censorship, building community, and equity, diversity and inclusion. Your proposal does not need to fit the theme to be considered for inclusion in the conference.

RILA Awards of Recognition, Nominations Now Open

The annual RILA awards process provides the opportunity for special recognition of the accomplishments, service, and commitment of trustees, librarians, and others. The RILA Executive Board encourages nominations of deserving colleagues, associates, trustees, friends of libraries and other advocates each year.


Awards include:

  • Outstanding Librarian
  • Outstanding Library Paraprofessional
  • Trustee of the Year
  • Meritorious Friend(s) of the Library
  • Library Champion

Dollar General Literacy Foundation Grants (February 17)

"The Dollar General Literacy Foundation supports nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, and libraries that offer literacy programs in communities served by Dollar General in 44 states through the following grant programs: Adult Literacy, Family Literacy, and Summer Reading."


Rural Development Broadband ReConnect Program Grants
(February 22)

The ReConnect Loan and Grant Program is a federal program through the USDA that furnishes loans and grants to provide funds for the costs of construction, improvement, or acquisition of facilities and equipment needed to provide broadband service in eligible rural areas.


FINRA Foundation Library Grants (FINRA, March 1)

"This grant program supports public libraries and academic libraries in their efforts to meet financial and/or investor education needs at the community level by providing high-quality education, services, and resources. The program also aims to ensure diversity, equity, and inclusion in access to personal finance education and information."


Kajeet 2022 Homework Gap Grant (February 13)

"Kajeet's 2022 Homework Gap Grant is focused on continuing the great work being done in public libraries to close the digital divide for students in their communities, also referred to as the 'Homework Gap'. This funding opportunity will allow libraries to provide students in their community with safe, reliable access to online educational resources anytime, anywhere. Public Libraries, K-12 Schools and Districts, Tribal Schools, and Colleges and Universities in the United States and Canada are eligible to apply."


Believe in Reading Grants (Ongoing)

"Believe in Reading funds excellent programs dedicated to the teaching and encouragement of reading for all ages anywhere in the world. Believe in Reading’s grants are renewable for up to three years, but a first-year award does not guarantee any subsequent awards. At this time, the maximum grant amount is $10,000, new applicants are rarely funded for more than $3,000."
