October News
at Snowshoe Elementary October 2024
Weather is changing in the valley. We're moving from our rainy September into our chilly and possibly snowy October, so it's important to remember that your students spend 30 minutes outside at recess every day, all the way to -10° F. Please make sure your students are dressed appropriately for the weather. We want them comfortably outside during recess, as staying inside because they don't have appropriate gear isn't allowed. If you have a hardship and cannot provide the needed winter gear for your child, please reach out to our nurse for possible referral to available resources.
Another important note: We want our families to be aware of is that Heelys (shoes with wheels) are not allowed at school. We have had a number of students wearing them and wheeling around at recess. Please make sure that your student does not wear these to school, as it poses a safety issue. We appreciate your assistance keeping our kiddos safe during school time.
And finally, if you have a student staying after school for an activity, such as Girls Who Code, Basketball, Migrant Ed, etc., you MUST let us know they are staying after by putting that information in the Pikmykid app. It is not enough for the student to be signed up for an activity or for the student to tell their teacher that they are staying after school. It has to be in the app, or the front office needs to be notified by the parent. If you are having a problem with the app, please call the front office for assistance. Thank you for your help.

Would you like to volunteer at the book fair? Our librarian, Ms. Reynolds would appreciate help. Please reach out to her by email to schedule a time at laura.reynolds@matsuk12.us.
If you would like to opt your student out of participating in the book fair, fill at the form on this link https://docs.google.com/document/d/1TytfkuTz3q_rJFP-BVZzeLIVUbKPqkibZSJCdrSRSx0/edit?usp=sharing.
Please note that if you do bring your student to the book fair before school begins, they need to be accompanied by their parent/guardian, and they will not be released to go to class until 9:05. Parents will need to stay with them in the library or students can go back outside the front doors until the bell rings.
FALL FESTIVAL IS COMING
PTA Fall Festival event is October 25 from 5-8pm. Please dress in costumes for the evening event only, not during the school day. That day at school is Sports Spirit Day, so students may dress in their favorite Sports attire.
PTA needs your help to make this event a success. Please contact PTA at snowshoePTA@gmail.com if you can volunteer and/or would like to help run a booth.
PTA also needs your help with candy, small prizes, and cupcake donations.
Keep an eye out for a flyer coming home soon on ways to save and get presale tickets.

4TH GRADE ORNAMENTS
Did you know that the U.S. Capitol Christmas tree is coming from a national forest in Alaska this year? This tree will be placed on the west lawn of the US Capitol building for the 2024 holiday season.
The 4th grade classes of Mrs. Sheets and Mrs. Proulx participated in making ornaments that will hang on the tree. We are so proud that our Snowshoe 4th graders will be represented in the capitol!
