Steuart W. Weller Elementary Weekly Newsletter
A Message from the Principal:
November 10, 2024
Dear Weller Families:
Picture re-takes will be on Tuesday morning, November 12. If you want child to have a new picture taken, please email your child's teacher or call the main office on Monday. Students who have newly arrived to Weller or who were absent on picture day, will automatically have their pictures taken. This will be the photo in the school yearbook and parents have the option to purchase the photos after seeing the proofs. You do not need to send in any money to school.
Monday is Veterans Day! Our third grade students will present a vocal tribute to veterans at their noon concert. We appreciate the dedication and service of veterans and their families to our country.
Now that mornings are chilly and it is warm in the afternoon, students seem to have more difficulty keeping track of their coats and sweatshirts. Our Lost & Found double sided clothing racks are completely full.
Please feel free to come to school, check in at the office, get a badge, then look for your child's lost belongings. We plan on donating all Lost & Found items to Salvation Army on November 22.
Parents, we need your help. We have seen an increase in name-calling and teasing on the school buses and at recess. It our expectation that all students treat one another and all adults with respect and kindness. Our school motto is: Each Unique...All One Family. We know that family members can have a difference of opinion, but being kind is a fundamental characteristic of a happy family, of a civil society, and is a characteristic of any elementary school. Please help us by encouraging your child to be accepting of others and not teasing one another.
Reminder: Exchange Street is NOT a designated drop off for students. Please stop turning on to Exchange Street to pick up or drop off your children. We have had too many near misses of students getting out of cars in the middle of the street, drivers intimidating the school staff who are trying to safely help children cross in the crosswalk, or people making u-turns in the middle of the street in front of other cars Saving a few minutes of time is not worth an accident.
Exchange Street is used for staff and neighborhood parking and the Exchange Street sidewalks are for children who are walking to school. Staff enter the school lot to park and buses exit after dropping off students. The safety of students and our staff members is very important.
If you are driving your child to school, please use the car loop on the gym side of the school. Safety must come first.
Thanks for your cooperation! We appreciate it!
Respectfully yours,
Julia Burton, Principal
PTO Fall Festival:
Weller and Riverside Spirit:
The Weller Wild Cat ASAP Cheer Team joined the Riverside Varsity Cheerleaders at their football game vs Lightridge HS. This was a spirited partnership with our feeder school.
Don't Miss this Important Date:
Tuesday, November 12, 2024 will be the last time to get that picture perfect Fall photo of your child. Notify your child's classroom teacher if you wish to have your child's original picture taken again.
Bus Safety Review:
Here are five tips, for our Loudoun County Students, to ensure all bus rides are safe, smooth and hassle-free. Take a moment to watch this video with your child and review these great tips.
Veterans' Day Concert
SWES Veterans Day Concert: Monday, November 11th at 12pm in the gym. Featuring all 3rd graders. Families are invited. We want to honor all veterans.
Student Birthdays:
Just a friendly reminder that LCPS has a policy that students refrain from bringing in treats (such as cupcakes) for their class to celebrate their birthday. We encourage prizes, such as a pencils, squishy balls, etc in place of food items. At Weller, we pride ourselves in modeling our motto - "Each Unique...All One Family"! When purchasing items, please remember to have enough items for the entire class. Individual invitations for a private party are not allowed to be distributed at school.
Watchdog Parents:
We are officially launching our "Watchdog Parents" program for 2024-2025. What is this wonderful program you ask? This is an opportunity for parents to become role models for our students. You will have the opportunity to work with classes, students, and your children's classroom throughout the day. You pick the full day or half day to commit your time working with the Wild Cats.
