Here is a great example of how important it is for seniors to share their full story with colleges. “RIT will remain "Test Optional" for all undergraduate programs. RIT reviews its applicant pool using a holistic review process. Each applicant is reviewed individually taking all classes, rigor of high school coursework, grade point average, rank, final exams, portfolio (Art, Design, and Film & Animation applicants only), extracurricular activities, recommendations, and many other factors into the final decision on admission to their RIT major. For those not submitting scores, our admissions officers will consider with increased weighting their “additional information”, looking for important qualities and characteristics along with academic and personal accomplishments.” As we discussed in class, when listing activities, list the most important activities to yourself first. Be sure to Q & Q, or Qualify and Quantify, not letting the reader have to guess about your involvement. This summer is a great time to prepare your future resume. Your letter writers will also be looking at your resume so they can write the best letter possible! Note: if you have created a resume outside of Naviance, follow these steps. Enter “Resume is uploaded in JOURNAL” in a Naviance resume entry. Go to JOURNAL (YOUR account section),and upload your resume into your Journal.
Class of 2026
In our last Connections class of sophomore year, we spent time in class considering a new way to think about career exploration with a challenge card sort activity. Choosing a specific job title does not consider the options students might not know about or the reality that job titles and tasks are changing over time. Thinking about challenges allows them to see opportunities and is a great way to answer the stress-inducing (yet well-meaning) question “What do you want to do with the rest of your life.” In other words, students may have not exactly chosen a specific career, but they know they want to help people reach their potential, prepare future leaders, and communicate ideas and emotions. Talk with your child about the challenges they chose to consider during the challenge cards activity. Students will revisit this topic during their junior year.
