Zones of Regulation - the Yellow Zone
Zones of Regulation
Welcome back to school! And welcome back to our series on the Zones of Regulation!
The Yellow zone is characterized by higher levels of energy and more intense emotions. Emotions in the yellow zone could be silly, excited, frustrated, worried, etc. While it is higher energy, we maintain a feeling of being in control of our emotions and actions while in the yellow zone. Yellow zone is helpful in times when we need a little extra energy, like sports games, or playing with friends. You may choose to regulate the yellow zone when you need to focus or sleep.
How to spot the yellow zone:
fidgety limbs or muscles
higher energy level
Fast heart rate or breathing
Body warming up
Fast or “stuck” thinking
Strategies to try:
Take a break
Large body movements
Go for a walk
Breathing exercises
“Thought strategies” (counting, times tables, favorite song)
Ensure that needs have been met (food, water, rest)
2025 PE Field Days
Save the Date!
Wednesday, Mar 12th: 3rd-5th Grade
Thursday, Mar 13th: K-2nd Grade
What to Expect
Students will rotate through fun stations with their homeroom class throughout the day (with a break for lunch). Parents are welcome to come and watch the fun!

Additional note about 5th Grade Ads
Caregivers can submit a 5th Grade Ad for your child for this year’s yearbook. Ads are optional, larger than previous years (1/8 page), and are available for purchase from Josten's HERE
If you choose to submit a 5th Grade Ad, please be aware of the following standards:
Ads submissions should be about your own child
The purpose of a 5th Grade Ad is to send your child to middle school with a positive note
Ad submissions should be positive statements that affirm the student
All yearbook content and entries are subject to review by Clayton Elementary administrators. Please contact our principal, Karen McCollum, with any questions at karen.mccollum@austinisd.org.
