February Newsletter
Dear Davis Families,
February is often associated with love and appreciation—a time to celebrate connection, kindness, and appreciation for one another. At our school, we embrace these values through the philosophy of In Lak’ech, reminding us that we are all interconnected. This aligns beautifully with Black History Month, as we honor the resilience, achievements, and contributions of Black leaders who have shaped our world.
To deepen students’ understanding of In Lak’ech, we have partnered with a local artist, and through mariachi and art classes, students are expressing how they embody this message of unity and how each of us is a bridge to In Lak'ech. We will also gather for a special assembly where students will sing and share their reflections. Additionally, we welcome Ben’s Bells on February 13th for a kindness-focused student assembly. A big thank you to our PTA for making this possible! We encourage families to continue conversations at home about how we each play a role in building a more connected, inclusive, and compassionate community.
Love of Reading & Spirit Week (February 10 - 14) Join us for an exciting Love of Reading Week filled with fun activities to inspire a passion for books:
Monday: "Read My Shirt" – Wear a shirt with kind, fun, or inspirational messages.
Tuesday: "Global Literacy" – Represent another country through dress or flag colors.
Wednesday: "Dress Like a Literary Character" – Come as your favorite book character.
Thursday: "Reading Jogs Your Brain!" – Wear athletic gear.
Friday: "Cozy Up With a Good Book" – Pajama Day!
Thank you for your ongoing support in fostering a culture of kindness, learning, and unity. Let’s make this February a month to remember!
With gratitude,
Marisela Campillo
Principal, Davis Bilingual Elementary

Support Learning at Home
To help your child continue building skills outside of school, here are a few key strategies:
- Daily Reading: Encourage your child to read for at least 20 minutes every evening to strengthen literacy skills and develop a love for reading.
- Utilize I-Ready and Imagine: Log in through CLEVER to access engaging activities that reinforce skills in both Literacy and Math.
- Skill Mastery Goals: Aim to master two skills per week in each subject to see significant growth and progress.
- Need Help with CLEVER? If you need support with logging into CLEVER from home, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher for assistance.
Your encouragement and support at home play a vital role in your child’s academic success. Thank you for being our partner in learning!

Tax Credit
Now through April 15th, 2025, you can take advantage of the Arizona Public School Tax Credit to pay the income tax you owe directly to Davis Bilingual Magnet. In the state of Arizona, you get your tax credit contribution back subject to the limits of your tax liability.
What should I mark when I make my donation online?
We are especially grateful for donations marked “Undesignated,” as that allows us to put your donation towards a specialist position on our campus (P.E., Garden, Art, etc). Thank you for supporting us as we raise funds to keep these important positions.
What if I already made a payment for Extended Day?
Many of you made a payment for Extended Day. Kindly note that you may be able to take advantage of the federal Child and Dependent Care Credit, as Extended Day supports parents who pay for childcare so that they may work outside of the home. Please consult your tax professional for more details. This may allow you to make an additional contribution to Davis (in addition to Extended Day) and claim the Arizona tax credit, for up to $400, per the information above.
