Need to Know Info...
- Teachers will be sending out invites this week for Parent-Teacher Conferences. You will receive either an email or text asking you to select a time in the online app "Sign Up Genius". If you have trouble, please contact one of your student's advisors. Every advisory has two co-teachers.
- If you are bilingual and would like to volunteer as an interpreter for Hellstern MS, please reach out to our ESL Center at 479-750-8706. Be sure and let them know that you are interested in serving Hellstern.
- Home Access Center (HAC) - We will have a station to help you get into Home Access Center during conferences. Many of our parents have tried and are having trouble, and we need to sit with you and trouble-shoot the issue. We have been working with students this week to get them into HAC. Once your student logs in and changes his/her password - the student can always log in for you and show you his/her grades.
- Optional soccer practices start this week - players will need to come with athletic shoes (preferably soccer cleats) and shin guards. Soccer balls are not needed.
Arrival/Dismissal
- Our Crosswalk Safety Guards during dismissal and arrival have one MAIN purpose - to get students across the roads safely. Student safety is their priority. He/she MAY direct traffic to expedite the process. Slow down and be aware of all staff on duty.
- Success arrival and dismissal depends on ALL of us working together. Here are the guidelines you should be following at all times:
- Do not use your cell phone in a school zone - this is an Arkansas state law.
- Be courteous to your fellow drivers - do not try and "cheat" the system - be patient. When you hurry, student safety is compromised.
- 6th grade side - alternate (1, 2, 3) entering the round about
- Pull all the way forward - your child can walk to get to you/or the entrance

Hero Cards - Here's the scoop!
Hole punches are visual reminders for students who are not meeting our school wide expectations for behavior. Hole punches start over every 3 weeks. Our goal is for students to reflect and create habits that ensure learning for all students in every class.
The first hole punch is just a warning. Most middle school students will need a reminder at some point in the year.
The second hole punch is a parent conversation so that we can all work together as a team to find a way to meet these behavior expectations.
The third hole punch in a three week period will result in a lunch detention.
The fourth hole punch in a three week period will result in an AM or PM lunch detention to reflect and come up with solutions to correct the behaviors.
Further hole punches indicate the student needs more individualized instruction on appropriate behaviors. The student might be assigned a behavior academy to relearn behaviors, participate in a parent/teacher/student meeting, or have an individual behavior plan.

Student Attendance
Seven (7) absences per semester will be considered excessive in elementary and

- Military: Student absences due to military deployment on leave from active duty of a parent or legal guardian.
- Legal: Student absences due to court or legal appointments. Court/legal appointments must indicate the day and time the student was seen at court or at the attorney’s office. Appropriate documentation from the court/legal office must be submitted to the attendance office.

Band Car Wash
Sept. 30 - Free Car Wash @Zips!
8am until 1,000 cars are washed for FREE (typically goes until 5pm).
HMS & CJH Band students will be working from 11:30-3pm at the Zips near Har-Ber Meadows. Other Band students from Springdale will be working shifts all day between 3 Zips locations.
Our HMS Band students will kick off this fundraiser on Wednesday, Sept. 13th, by collecting donations to help our current Band students in financial need pay for instruments & supplies so that they can have the opportunity to be a part of the Band. If we are able to, we will purchase more French Horns, Baritones, & Tubas for our students who cannot transport them home on the bus and need one to keep at home for practicing.
Individuals typically donate between $10-20 to a band student. Business donations are usually between $100-$1000 (tax deductible).
The FREE car wash at Zips is our THANK YOU to the Springdale community for supporting the Springdale Bands.
Link to donate online.
List "Car Wash Donation" as the description.
Must know student's name and ID number.
