Join a conversation to spark civic engagement
Red Wing area resident members are invited to join a community conversation at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, at the Sheldon Theatre.
The Rural Voice program is titled “How to Build More Civic-minded Communities.”
The evening will begin with MPR's Kerri Miller interviewing Dr. Brian Klaas, an associate professor in Global Politics at University College London. Then community members will be invited to share their voices and ask questions.
Red Wing Community Education & Recreation is a cosponsor for the event. It is free and open to all.
Note that a quorum of Red Wing School Board, Red Wing City Council and various city commission members may be present.

Notes from the nurses
Feeling ill? Then stay home
Red Wing Public Schools reminds staff and students to stay home when ill. This is especially important if you have a:
Fever over 100 degrees.
Disruptive cough.
Runny nose and congestion.
Sore throat.
Headache and body aches.
Vomiting or diarrhea.
Be mindful of the following preventative measures:
Wash hands often.
Spray down surfaces to disinfect commonly touched areas.
Cough or sneeze into your inner elbow.
Stay home until your symptoms have significantly improved.
Get plenty of sleep.
Eat healthy.
Drink plenty of water to remain hydrated.
The bottom line is you need to stay home if you are sick. This will help to stop the spread of any illness.

Time to taste-test school menu items
Red Wing Public Schools played host to the Southern Minnesota Group of School Nutrition Professionals on Wednesday, Aug. 21.
More than 40 vendors set up in the high school cafeteria to showcase new products for visiting professionals to try. Everything was geared toward K-12 students' palates. There was everything from seasoned dried cucumber crisps for salads to Asian delicacies to traditional favorites such as French toast sticks.
Jess Peña, RWPS Director of Nutrition Services, coordinated the event. She serves on the boards of both the state and national school nutrition boards.
In addition to interacting with vendors, school cafeteria professionals attended education sessions with the Minnesota Department of Education and other state experts.
