We spent October making origami bookmarks that looked like pumpkins and Frankenstein.
We read the Perfect Pumpkin Pie and our new Monarch book, There's a Ghost in this House.

September JLG (Junior Library Guild) Book Preview Highlights
Winnie the Pooh by A.A. Milne, adapted by Travis Dandro
This graphic novel version of the classic Winnie the Pooh stories features all of the beloved characters in a more visual way.
At the End of the Day by Lisl Detlefsen
This beautiful picture book discusses all the things that can happen at the end of the day, and has a peaceful message about family. It also features a parent that is deployed for part of the story.
Evidence! by Deborah Hopkinson
A riveting story about Dr. John Snow, and how he figured out what was spreading a deadly cholera epidemic. His work is the beginning of modern epidemiology, the study of how diseases spread in a community.

This charming picture book discusses Max’s school days, which are sometimes chaotic, but he is trying his best!
Kindred Spirits: Shilombish Ittibachvffa by Leslie Stall Widener
This picture book format nonfiction text details the help that the Choctaw nation offered to the Irish people during the potato famine, and then the aid the Irish people offered to the Hopi and Navajo nations, partly as tribute to the help they received. A beautiful story of connection and help.
Urban Coyotes by Mary Kay Carson
This nonfiction book details the urban population of coyotes in Chicago, and how researchers are learning about the population, and working on ways for coyotes and humans to coexist.
