Forensic Science Students at BHS Conduct Hands-On Arson Investigation Lesson
Forensic Science students at Bastrop High School took their learning to the next level with a hands-on Arson unit. On Friday, January 31, students set fire to miniature structures they built, observing and documenting the behavior of fire.
The project, designed to help students understand fire patterns and arson investigation techniques, began with students developing a fictional storyline that explained the reason behind the fire. Teams then constructed model structures using craft supplies. Once the structures were set ablaze, students recorded their observations, noting factors such as weather conditions, ignition difficulty, smoke color, and material burn rates. They also captured photos and videos of the fire to analyze afterwards. Read more ...

These adjustments accommodate the opening of Adelton Elementary and the transition of our intermediate schools into middle schools (Creekside and Riverside Middle School).

Attendance Matters
January "Make Everyday Count" Attendance Contest Winners
During the month of January, Bastrop ISD campuses have been battling against themselves, the weather and illnesses to improve their attendance rates from the month of January 2024. While 8 campuses were successful in this contest, our winners for the month were Red Rock Elementary (increase of 1.74%), Bastrop Middle School (increase of 2.63%) and Bastrop High School (increase of 0.64%). Regular school attendance is not only important for academic success but also sets the foundation for future opportunities. Every day our students come to school, they are building knowledge, forming lasting relationships, and preparing for a bright future. Being in class consistently allows them to stay engaged, understand the material, and grow as a student and individual.
For our February contest, campuses with the best attendance rates on the first and last day of each week for the month will be crowned our February winners!
