Fremont Middle School

A Message From the Principal
Good afternoon,
This was our first full week of school. We had a variety of activity with tryouts for fall sports, Curriculum Night for parent/guardians, as well as, students learning about executive functioning and organization. All Fremont Middle School students receive a school planner and we encourage its use to stay on top of daily assignments, assessments, and projects.
We also had our first Wildcat Wednesday Flex this week. Flex classes meet at the start of the day each Wednesday for community-building and connection with their classmates. We follow the Illinois State Board of Education SEL Standards that focus on managing emotion, building positive relationships, making responsible choices, and problem-solving challenging situations. Note that Flex class is at the end of the day on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Students will have time for homework, studying, organization, and much more during this time.
With temperatures increasing next week, please send your student with a water bottle. Students are encouraged to bring water bottles to PE to stay hydrated.
Go Wildcats!

Intramurals
Intramural registration is now open. Please refer to the email sent from Mrs. Peas on Friday, or visit our school website located on our athletics page for more information.
Registration for intramurals can be limited so please register as soon as possible!
You may contact Mrs. Peas with any questions at cpeas@fsd79.org
Parent Pick-Up Line
Safety is our first priority here at Fremont. If you are a parent/guardian that picks up your student after school it is very important that your student does not walk past the designated cones on the sidewalk to your vehicle. We ask that as the line moves you continue to pull forward and pick up your child near or in front of the school front doors. Let’s make this a great, safe year!
Early Pick-Up Procedures
If your student needs to be picked up early, please notify our main office at 847-566-9384 or send an email to the receptionist, Karolina O'Malley, at komalley@fsd79.org. A parent/guardian or designated person must present identification to pick a student up early. Please note that the latest pickup time is 2:00 PM on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday and 1:30 PM on Wednesday. Parents cannot park in handicapped parking spots near the gym as it interferes with bus pick up.
Medical Forms
Health information and medical forms are available on the FSD79 Health Services webpage. Please drop off forms at your child’s school.
Sixth graders must provide a dental examination form and a health examination form with proof of up-to-date immunizations.
Any student who would like to participate in school sports will need a school sports physical before they are allowed to try out.
The school nurse is Rachel Hickok. Please contact her with any questions regarding medical forms. (rhickok@fsd79.org)
Illness
Please see the information from our Family Handbook. Healthy children learn better. To prevent the spread of germs at school, we ask that you keep your child home from school if they are ill. With consultation from the school nurse, the school office may contact you to take your child home should they become ill while at school. Your child should be at home if they have any of the following symptoms:
- Fever of 100.4 degrees F or higher. Students must remain at home until the fever is below 100.4 degrees F without medications for 24 hours.
- Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, or diarrhea (not related to an already established medical issue)
- Any rash that has not been diagnosed or open and draining sores
- Red, inflamed eyes with a discharge
- Red or swollen joints
- Diarrhea (three or more episodes in 24 hours)
- Has symptoms that prevent them from participating in school, such as:
- Headaches, body aches, earaches
- Severe sore throat (Could be strep throat even without fever. Other symptoms of strep throat in children are headache and stomach upset. Contact your healthcare provider to assess or diagnose strep throat.
If your child has recently been ill, please be aware of the following guidelines before having your child return to school, athletic or social activities:
- They should feel fit for at least 24 hours.
- Be free of fever for at least 24 hours (without medications for 24 hours). 39
- Be free of vomiting and/or diarrhea for at least 24 hours.
- If they have strep throat, they must be on the appropriate antibiotic for at least 24 hours.
- If they have conjunctivitis, they must be on the proper eye drops for at least 24 hours or cleared by a physician.
- A doctor should assess rash illnesses. If chickenpox is suspected, stay home for at least five days after the rash appears or until all blisters have scabbed over.
Parents/guardians can help curtail the possibilities of epidemics by daily inspection of their own children. Because of the contagious nature of many illnesses, please consider the child’s physical complaints before leaving or sending a child to school. If a child displays any symptoms of illness, parents/guardians will be contacted and expected to arrange for the student to be picked up. Sick children cannot remain in school.
