Assignments:
Mr. Kirschenbaum, ELA
ELA - This past week, we focused on identifying and writing a theme for a text. This week, we will work on understanding the use of language to provide meaning within a narrative. If students forget to bring home their Roll of Thunder book, there is a copy of the text on CANVAS Modules and SORA (Clever).
Roll of Thunder Reading Calendar This Week (in case you are absent):
By Monday (9/30) – Roll Chapters 2 & 3
By Next Monday (10/7) – Roll Chapter 4
Mx. Gomez, Math
This week in Math 6, we have been using Equivalent Ratios to complete and create Ratio Tables. Students have a Summative coming up on October 2nd.
This week in Math 7, we have been learning about Scale Drawings and Scale Factors. Students have 2 iReady lessons (only 1 is required) to help them build and reinforce the skills we have learned this week.
If you are able to donate, I have linked the math Amazon Wishlist. https://www.amazon.com/registries/gl/guest-view/3HGDSTYZTUUQL
Ms. Wesselhoft, Geography
This week we explored DC through thematic maps, articles, and individual neighborhood investigations. Next week, students will use the information they learned/gathered to pick something in their community they want to change/improve. They will then craft letters to local representatives using evidence they collected.

Science with Ms. Sagan
Hi Scientists!
Fantastic work finishing your Nature of Science Unit! On Monday, September 30th, students will be taking their summative, the Scientific Method Post Test. Students are HIGHLY ENCOURAGED to use the Blooket review games on Canvas to study.
Following this, we will dive into our Plate Motion unit, where students will explore the dynamic processes that shape our Earth. We will end next week with an engaging in class activity focused on locating earthquakes and volcanoes.
Roots
Students will be taking Roots Quiz 1.5 on Friday October 4th .
The Roots Are:
Circ = ring, around (Think: circle, circumference)
*Equi/Equa = equal (Think: equator, equation)
*Geo = earth (Think: geologist, geography)
Nox/Noc = night (Think: equinox, nocturnal)
*Vacu = empty (Think: vacuum, evacuate)
Keeper Words: uni, bi, tri, cent, graph, helio, kilo, grav, luna, scope, tele, sol
Blooket - How to use
Blooket is a fantastic tool that helps students learn the materials in a series of flashcards mini games. I highly recommend that students make an account - they are free and are a fantastic study resource. Once students make an account, they can click on the links in Canvas . Once they click on the assignment, a gray box will pop up, since Canvas cannot host Blooket games. Please tell your children to click the name of the Blooket (above the gray box) to be redirected to the website. Happy Studying!

Library Corner
The library orientations have completed for all students! Most students have now checked out at least one book from the library! 6th grade students should be almost ready to return their books if they haven't already. Notices will go out next week for 6th students who have overdue materials and over the following two weeks for 7th and 8th graders.
Students are able to see their current loans by accessing their library accounts through the Clever app called "Destiny Discover". They can follow the process below to see items that they have checked out:
Log into Clever (clever.com/in/dcpsk12)
Search "Destiny Discover" or navigate to the Library Resources section and click on the icon.
Click on the "My Stuff" link at the top of the screen to see any items that are checked out.
Students who have lost materials or see items that may be linked to their account by mistake should speak with Mr. Reichlen.
There are no fines or penalties for lost materials. Donations of hard cover titles of middle school-age-appropriate works in good condition are always accepted if families are able to replace lost materials.
